another dream of mine

0 0 0

sunlight streaming through
the windows
in the still time
of our apartment

it's hitting
our wooden floors

as you hear
the cars
pass by the building
in a splurge of
honks and beeps

and we're tangled in the sheets

with the sound of our
coffee machine
playing a beat
better than
any of us could

your hands grasped onto mine
skin touching skin
gazing at each other's
perfect imperfections

lingering looks
as fingers trace tattoos
and scars
and memories
we've held dearly

like the mason jar
on our living room shelf
filled with love letters
of forevers
and infinities

our loud laughs
and giggles
echo in the room

as we try to hold in
the excitement
of another one
of our stupid jokes

and before i could
enjoy your smile

i wake up abruptly
just like ice cold water
is poured onto me

i'm left
with heavy sweats
and an empty spot on
my bed

and even with
my heaving breaths
i am scared you wouldn't

fill this space
again

but
i'll always leave it
open for you to come back.
