sunlight streaming through
the windows
in the still time
of our apartmentit's hitting
our wooden floorsas you hear
the cars
pass by the building
in a splurge of
honks and beepsand we're tangled in the sheets
with the sound of our
coffee machine
playing a beat
better than
any of us couldyour hands grasped onto mine
skin touching skin
gazing at each other's
perfect imperfectionslingering looks
as fingers trace tattoos
and scars
and memories
we've held dearlylike the mason jar
on our living room shelf
filled with love letters
of forevers
and infinitiesour loud laughs
and giggles
echo in the roomas we try to hold in
the excitement
of another one
of our stupid jokesand before i could
enjoy your smilei wake up abruptly
just like ice cold water
is poured onto mei'm left
with heavy sweats
and an empty spot on
my bedand even with
my heaving breaths
i am scared you wouldn'tfill this space
againbut
i'll always leave it
open for you to come back.
