please understand
we love youas your lips
utter words
only we can be scared ofas you push
buttons upon buttons
for hours on endpointing fingers
at all of usshine a spotlight
on the honored guestcrap on the rest
of themcan't you see
that we care?you threaten ropes
and knives
as they embrace
my arms and legsflashes
and numbness
of being reminded
our love wasn't enoughyou show your knees
like they are battle wounds
from scrubbing a bathroomremind us
it's our fault
they're bruisedremind us
that your body is aching
as you soak
in your own remedies
in your own pitiesstick a leash
on one of us
to do your biddingbecause you did
the one thing you were meant toand we listen
because we want you to know
that we love youin turn
we are dragged
on kitchen floors
to our stained living room carpetonly fed your anger
or left to starve
empty of anythingplease get that
we carebut i realized
we are in a war
always in a waras bullets ricochet
and blood hits the wallsno one is winning
even if i hold up
my white flag
to surrenderyour lens
make you see
redand you continue shooting.
