Lori still held me, and I calmed down.
"It's easier this way." Jenner said.
"We don't deserve this. Suicide is your choice, not ours." I said.
Lori let me go and I wiped my tears. Daryl ran down and ran to Jenner, attempting to swing an axe on him. I wanted him too, so I didn't try to stop him.
Rick grabbed Daryl, and held him back, screaming.
I saw Glenn, still hungover, in the corner.
I sat beside him in silence.
"That's it." Shane yelled as he grabbed a gun and held it in Jenners face.
"If you kill him we'll never get out of this!" Glenn yelled as he turned around and saw what was happening.
Shane yelled, and shot. But he shot a machine, causing sparks. I ducked under the counter and grabbed Glenn's arm, pulling him down with me. Shane shot a few more times before Glenn and I sat back up.
"This is it." Glenn whispered.
"Don't say that. We're gonna be okay." I didn't believe that myself.
"How can you say that? See the clock? It's a death timer." Glenn said as he put his hands behind his neck. Daryl ran back up, continuing to hit the door.
Rick was talking to Jenner, and Glenn was talking to me but my ears rang.
I couldn't hear anything, I wasn't focused on anything.
I held my backpack as support. Glenn put his hand on my shoulder and shook me but I couldn't snap back into it. Sound echoed.
I stood up, without thinking.
"Let us out of here right fucking now." I kept my voice steady. Rick put his hand up, as to tell me to
stop talking.
"Maybe I deserve this, maybe you want this, but Carl, Sophia?" My voice stayed steady and everyone else went silent. Daryl even stopped hitting the door, and turned and looked.
"You're a sick fuck. At least open the damn door and give us a chance." My voice raised. Jenner stared at me, without saying a word.
"You let us out and we die, that's on us. You keep us in here and we die, our blood is on your hands." I said again.
Jenner nodded and started pressing buttons. The door opened.
"Come on!" Daryl called and everyone got up and ran out the door.
Daryl ran to me and grabbed me. We ran out the door, almost everyone following.
"Jenner said the other exits were sealed." Carol said, desperate to find a way out.
"How are we gonna get out mommy?" Sophia looked up at Carol. "Rick." Carol said as she reached into her bag.
"When I was washing your clothes , I found this." She handed him a grenade. Rick mentioned that he found a grenade back when he was stuck in the tank, but never mentioned where it went.
"Fuck yeah." I said under my breath. "Everyone get down!" Rick yelled as he ran and jumped. It exploded, and Daryl squeezed my hand as he shut his eyes. It got hot, but it worked.
"Move, move!" Rick yelled and we jumped out the broken window and ran towards our cars that stayed parked on the side of the road.
I ran into one of the vehicles, everyone else piled in. I saw Andrea and Dale follow behind.
"Get down!" Rick shouted as he ducked into the car.
Daryl hugged me and I heard the explosion but didn't look up right away.
"Oh shit." Glenn whispered as the explosion quieted down. Andrea and Dale were okay, but the building was up in flames.
Andrea and Dale hurried to the car.
"Jaqui stayed." Andrea whispered as she sat down.
"I wanted too. Dale didn't let me." Andrea said, clearly angry Dale took away her decision. I knew she was hurting because of her sister.
"And you didn't try to get Jaqui out?" Rick asked.
There was no answer.
"We should get out of here. That probably attracted so many walkers." Shane said.
We drove and everyone stared out at the burnt building.
I sat in the back with Daryl and opened up my backpack. No one spoke.
"I took a bottle." I said quietly. A lot of people turned their head to look at me and smiled. We passed it around.
A while later:
People started talking but Daryl and I stayed silent.
"Do you regret it?" He asked.
I turned and looked at him. His eyes looked into mine.
"Regret what?" I asked. "Not going back for you sister at the beginning of all of this" Daryl said.
I didn't answer for a second. I had almost forgotten about Carley. "If I knew it was this bad..." I stopped myself. I did regret it. Carley hadn't done much for me, and sure, she was a bitch but I loved her.
Daryl put his hand on my thigh.
"She's tough. She probably is back home still, somewhere." I said.
"Yeah she is tough. Remember when me and you were at the river?" Daryl asked. It was our classic hangout spot in highschool.
"And she came running down, and we were covered in that deers blood? And she screamed and cried?" Daryl asked, slightly laughing. That was one of the funniest days. I started laughing.
"Yeah. I remember. She beat the shit out of me for scaring her when we got home, but it was worth it." I laughed. Daryl smiled.
"Where are we gonna go now?" I asked in a whisper.
"We'll find somewhere. We always do." Daryl reassured me.
I put my head on his shoulder and closed me eyes. Naps were always a good thing.
