1) Notch likes to collect ugly things. He thinks these things deserve to be appreciated too and have a right to exist, just like anything else. He's afraid, if he doesn't collect ugly things, they would end up getting destroyed.
2) Similar to the fact above, Notch always buys the ugliest fruits or vegetables when grocery shopping, because he worries that no one else would buy them and they'd go to waste.
3) Notch's habit of getting ugly things is also the reason, why his household gets the weirdest and ugliest Christmas trees every year. Once it didn't even have needles.
4) Steve and Alex made a fun game out of giving Notch's collected things ridiculous names. There was a vase that was called 'Gloria the Not-So-Glorious'.
5) Jeb uses the big, ugly pots of Notch's collection as flowerpots and puts them on the front porch.
6) Notch tries his hardest to make more people appreciate ugly things. This mostly results in him talking to Alex and Steve about this for hours on end. He'd say things like: "Look, I now this glass looks hideous, but it's just as useful as any other glass!"
7) Notch's house stuffed to the brim with his collected things. It's getting out of hand.
8) Steve once told Herobrine about Notch's collection and complained about it. Herobrine, being the devil he is, searched for more ugly things and sent them all to his brother, who, of course, couldn't let go of them.
9) Herobrine would gift ugly things to his brother on every possible occasion, saying how much he appreciates his brother's hobby, resulting in the house being even more stuffed. Of course he only does it, because he knows how much it bothers the other ones. Notch is totally oblivious to that and thinks Herobrine does it because of actual friendliness.
