I... have no words for this really. It kinda just came to mind and I wanted to write it. Prepare to cry though, it's sad. But it will get better, I promise!

Also this kinda like the first chapter for something again, I just didn't want to immediately turn it into its own book in case I don't write more than two chapters for this in the end, lol. So into this book it all goes for now!

Also, for more context, this is the blurb I've written for this, to help me flesh out the idea better:

Nightmare Steve has been held captive and used by Elemental Steve for years, with no way to escape.
One fateful day however, Elemental decides to get rid of him and brings him out into a forest, far away from any signs of civilization. There he attempts to murder Nightmare in a cruel way.
But he doesn't succeed surprisingly. Somehow Nightmare manages to survive the assault and wakes up hours after he passed out.
With everyone believing he's dead, he has nowhere to go. So he aimlessly drags his wounded and tired body through the forest in hopes to find some sort of shelter, not even expecting himself to make it through the night.
In yet another turn of events, a group of people finds him. A group of people, that he has much more in common with, than he might think. A group og of people to offer him help, a place to stay and the opportunity to start anew.
Will Nightmare come around?

Chapter 1 - Lost And Found

Nightmare groaned in pain, as consciousness creeped back into his body at an agonizing pace. His world consisted of darkness and searing pain all throughout his beaten body. His head pounded uncomfortably and his throat was dry and tasted like metal. The disgusting stickiness of dried blood and dirt clung to his skin and hair like there was no tomorrow.

He faintly remembered how Elemental had lead him far out into an unknown forest. Further out than they have ever wandered. And then - somewhere in the middle of nowhere - Elemental had turned against him. Nightmare's world suddenly changed from clammy confusion into one of heaps of pain, flashing colors and the iron-like smell of blood.

Elemental must have treid to murder him for sure, however it seemed like he didn't succeed. He must've left as soon as Nightmare had stopped struggling, assuming he was dead. Or he grew tired of beating Nightmare into a pulp and left him to die by himself.

Cruel. Just cruel. Unforgivable.

Either way, somehow Nightmare survived this unjustified assault and was now waking up from the blackened bliss of unconsciousness.

He groaned once more, rolling his pounding head to the other side. His cheek was resting on something cold and hard - a root? He also noticed, that he was laying on his stomach, which - just like the rest of his body - hurt unbelievably.

Red eyes fluttered open, taking a moment or two to focus properly. Everything was dark, coated in the pale, silver gloom of moonlight. Plants littered his field of vision. Grass, moss and... leaves?

Right, he was somewhere outside. The cold gust of wind that sliced through the shredded remainder of his shirt and rustled through a leafy canopy above his head also suggested that. That he was in a forest too.

Most likely still the same forest he had followed Elemental into.

Nightmare had to focus. Though it wasn't easy, he had to. The night was dangerous, especiallyout in the forest. If he didn't want to get mauled by a pack of wolves, he would have to find shelter.

He brought a hand up to rest beside his head. This movement alone had caused another wave of pain surge through his muscles. His fingertips were numb from the cold and his palms burned from the countless scrapes and cuts.

Nightmare had to get up. So he tried to push himself off the ground. He grit his teeth hard, fighting down another groan of agony. His arms shook under his weight and his muscles screamed in protest, twinging with more pain, begging him to rest. To just stop moving and lay there. Waiting out the agony. Although that would be a bad idea.

Nightmare tried to move his legs under his body, but they didn't resond and failed to move. His weight became to much for his arms and he collapsed back to the ground.

A thud and defeated groan filled the otherwise silent night's air.

As his head hit the ground, his vision blurred shortly and dizziness washed over him. He felt like he was about to puke, good thing his stomach was empty.

Was he really unable to move his legs? He tried to just wriggle his toes, but there was nothing. His lower half was just as numb as his fingers.

Nightmare closed his eyes. His condition was critical. He doubted whole-heartedly that he would survive this state until the next morning. There was nothing he could do. He couldn't move; he couldn't cry out for help. Heck, he couldn't even use his powers to heal himself at least a tiny bit, because his energy was so depleted.

He just wished he had someone here with him. Dark or Shadow for example. Or even this human Sabre or Rainbow Steve would be good enough. Literally anyone, as long as they would keep him company; he just didn't want to die alone. (This made me cry ;-; )

It seemed like the universe had recognized his wish: Footsteps approached him. At least three sets of feet.

"Over there!" One voice.

"I knew I heard something!" A second voice. It sounded excited. But why?

"So you're not crazy after all, huh?" A third voice. Most likely teasing the second one.

The voices were all unfamiliar to him.

Their bickering was steadily coming towards him, as well as the golden light of a lantern. Nightmare didn't have the strength to pick up his head to see, who was approaching him, when the lantern's glow fell upon his beaten form.

All three gasped.

"Oh shit!"

"Now I didn't expect that-"

"Who is that? And how did he end up like this?!"

Someone sat down the lantern beside Nightmare. He didn't see it, but heard it clank when it met the floor.

"Is he even still alive?" The second voice muttered worriedly.

"We'll see..." The first voice replied. It sounded closer to him, like the person had crouched down.

Just then to gentle, warm fingers pressed against his cold neck, searching for a pulse.

A brief moment of silence.

The the first voice announced: "He still is! But only barely! Let's get him back to camp, so Midori can help him. Quick! Grab on!"

Answers of agreement were given by the other two and hands grabbed Nightmare's upper arms, hoisting his limp body upwards.

The sudden movement made his head spin more than ever. The pounding became merciless.

Nightmare slipped back into unconsciousness, not knowing who these strangers even were.
