15: The Painful Past

But before I could calm him down, the professor came into the room and we could not talk anymore.

It was lunch time now. I was being pulled by Taehyung to the cafeteria.

I never usually go to the cafeteria for lunch. I'll just buy something from the provision store in front of the campus and stay in the library, studying to recover the time I give at the café. But today, Taehyung stopped me from going to the provision store and pulled me to the cafeteria.

As Taehyung was taking me to the cafeteria, I could still see the fear visible in his face since I told him what happened.

As I reached the cafeteria, I saw tons of students going all around the room; chatting, eating and pulling pranks on each other. But as soon as I walked into the room with Taehyung, everyone just stopped doing whatever they were doing and just kept staring at me and Taehyung.

I was looking at the floor out of embarrassment and awkwardness, when I finally realized that Taehyung had stopped in front of a table at the far end of the room. I looked up to see some familiar faces sitting there.

I saw RM, Jimin, J-hope and Jungkook staring at me with confusion. Taehyung sat beside Jimin and made me sit beside him by yanking my left hand to sit down. He then said,

"Guys, Taerim is in trouble."

Everyone was stunned to hear that. Then J-hope asked, breaking the minute-long silence amongst us,

"What do you mean by trouble?"

His voice was reflecting worry and curiosity within itself. I looked to my right at Taehyung, who was also staring at me. But his state was reflecting helplessness. I left a sigh and explained to them whatever happened when I went downstairs after dinner service.

Everyone was stunned while they all heard the whole explanation. RM asked, while taking a bite from his red bean bun,

"Can't you say no to your dad? Can't you tell him that you don't want to get married with Jin hyung?"

I let out a sigh and replied,

"I did. But then he said I will have to marry Seokjin after 3 months from now and that's final."

"Taerim-ah! Does your father saying 'and that's final' mean that you have to do that?! You are an adult. He can not impose decisions on you like that anymore!"

I looked at Jimin, helplessly in his eyes and said,

"You don't know my dad. When I was 10, he sent me away to a boarding school in London for 5 years just because I went to a convenience store across my after class academy with my best friend without letting my bodyguards know of it."

They looked as if I just depicted the biggest murder mystery's creepy plot in front of them. But Taehyung seemed worse.

Well, I know the reason behind it.

Because he was the best friend that I went to the convenience store with that day.

He somehow said with a shaky mouth, breaking the awkward silence amongst us,

"A-after that day, she just disappeared. I did not know where she went. I somehow convinced the after class academy principal to tell me about her by begging on my knees. When she told me that Taerim was sent to a boarding school in London because she went to the convenience store with me, I...."

His voice trailed off to a sniffle. I looked at him from staring at the floor. He was close to tears. His beautiful dark brown eyes were getting pooled up with glistening tears.

I held his left hand firmly as my left hand went up to the table for a tissue to remove his tears. He then softly spoke with a sadness weighting it more,

"I always felt guilty. I cried every night, praying so that I could see her again for once and kept apologizing. 5 years later, an SNS account named "Jang Taerim" appeared in my "people you may know". I just knocked on her DM without thinking and kept talking with her to see if it really was my Jang Taerim."

I was now wiping away his years with a little guilt. He then continued,

"She had almost forgotten about me. But she was still the same Taerim who knew little of K-pop and only listened to Eric Nam and Paul Kim and American pop songs. So when she finally recognized me, she opened up to me and I promised her that I will never do anything to hurt her and always help her in any way possible."

I couldn't help holding back the sobs and pain resurfacing in my mind. I just hugged him and calmed him down.

I also, always missed Taehyung. He was one of the very people in my life who cared for me. He gave me my first taste of freedom in my life. And it was beautiful. And spending those 5 years without seeing that beautiful box smile of his was taxing my mind to stay positive.

And I didn't forget him. I could never forget my first bundle of joy in my life. I just couldn't recognize him in the first place. He had changed completely and his profile had no trail of who he really was.

When he told me that he was my Taehyung from Yang-So After Class Academy, I did not want to believe that fate actually brought him back to me in the first place. But then bought me just what he did buy me that day 5 years ago at the convenience store.

A Samyang Ramyeon, Strawberry flavoured 8 piece pack of Mochi and a chocolate yogurt.

It didn't take me a second to believe that he was my Taehyung from 2006.

I then broke the embrace, wiping away the tears in both his and my eyes. I looked at everyone else. And that looks soft at our closeness. Then Jungkook broke the silence and said,

"Long story short, if your dad wants it, it's almost impossible to change it."

Me and Taehyung both turned towards Jungkook and gave him a helpless nod. RM then asked,

"So, there is no way to stop this?"

I was sad as there was nothing to do in my mind except giving a nod. But suddenly, we heard a voice say,

"Maybe I know a way to stop this."

Sorry, I had to. I felt like i made the chapter too dark and painful for everyone so....😆😆

Okay, now you know some of the reasons behind Taerim's fear behind her dad saying "And that's final". I know the plot was a bit exagarating, but it was necessary for the fear to exist in both Taerim and Taehyung.
