Chapter 5

Artemis

Before every full moon, we like to take a quick walkthrough of the part of the woods we will be running in. So we took the next hour walking throughout the forest surrounding our house. We discovered that the nearest house was just 3 miles out and made a note to stay a good distance away from it just in case.

By the time we made it back to the house, it was now 6:30, the sun would be setting at 8:15 so we took this time to make dinner and change our clothes.

As the sun began to go down we were standing right in the back yard, we each went behind a tree to shift into our wolves. I was surprised my wolf Diana had not taken control already but she seemed to be waiting patiently for the moon.

I stripped from my athletic clothes and neatly folded them into my bag next to the tree. Once we shift our clothes are usually torn to shreds so we take them off beforehand.

I kneeled to the forest floor, feeling the damp grass and twigs beneath me as I began to shift. I felt my bones popping into place, my leg stretched out feeling my foot form into a paw. I rose my head up to the now full moon and shook out my body as my mouth turned into a snout. Looking down at my hands I saw my white paws, I then looked up when I heard a twig snap.

It was Apollo and Athena. They were now shifted into their wolves and looking at me oddly. It had been a while since I saw their wolves but they looked the same.

Apollos wolf Phoebus, had black fur with gold streaks throughout it and a thick lining of gold around his paws. His once green eyes were now hazel with gray specks meaning his wolf was in control.

Athena's wolf Pallas, was blood red with gold streaks, she had white paws and white at the tips of her ears. There was a gold design on her chest that we could never make out so brushed it off as some kind of fur patch or birthmark. Her once grey eyes were now black with gold specks in them. They both looked mesmerizing. 

I was taken from my thoughts when I heard Apollo's voice ring through my mindscape. The three of us are able to mind link like pack members but only in when we shift. This allows us to talk with each other telepathically where ever we are during our runs.

"Artemis where is Diana? Your eyes haven't changed." Apollo said as I heard his wolf hmph in agreement.

I then realized he was right I was still in control! Where was she, this wasn't like her at all?

"Diana? Diana?" I yelled entering my mindscape I shared with her.

"What Arty?" Diana said with her usual sassy attitude.

"What the hell do you mean what? Why are you giving me control tonight? This isn't like you." I exclaimed.

"Hmph, maybe I just don't feel like it tonight. You should be grateful not coming to me complaining."

"I wasn't complaining I was just worried is all, I know how much you need this night to yourself so I just don't understand why your turning it down" I explained.

"Whatever Arty just enjoy the night while you can I'll be out later, you'll need me, I know it," Diana stated while going deeper into our mindscape.

'I'll need her what the hell does that mean?' I thought to myself.

When I finally came out of my mindscape I could see Athena and Apollo started having fun without me. Apollo was bitting Athenas ear as they both rolled around in the dirt. I decided to push what Diana said aside and enjoy my first full moon in control.

I joined in the tussle, nipping at Athena's tail, and Apollos thigh when they noticed my presence again.

"So what did Diana say" Apollos wolf Phoebus asked me through the mind link.
