C H A P T E R 4 1
It was a cloudless night and the bright reflection of the moon give light on the earth below it. The gentle blow of the last of the winter breeze made the hairs on Victoria's nape tingle.
Draco tugged on their intertwined hands, beckoning the girl towards the field; both headed towards the edge of the Forbidden Forest. Despite the warnings of the school's headmaster where none of the students really seem to heed, the forest really isn't as forbidden as it is called.
Victoria had been well acquainted with the forest during their first year when Thunder and her had the unfortunate luck of being caught during one of their night escapades where either it was the two of them or in some occasions where Jullienne have the guts to go with them in exploring every nook and cranny of the castle. They were in the third floor corridors when they were caught by Professor McGonagall and was brought to their Potions Teacher, Professor Snape for their sanction: a night in the forbidden forest with Hagrid.
At least, it was Hagrid that accompanied them and not Filch.
Ever since that night, Victoria finds herself in many instances, going into the forest be it in broad daylight or in the darkest of the evenings. The faint noises of the inhabitants always helped in easing her troubled mind as she takes her leisurely walks within the place. Although, she never dwells longer than necessary and would never dare to go deeper in fear of getting lost.
However, as Draco leads her deeper into the woods she feels the rush of adrenaline in her veins as the cold November air nips on her uncovered skin. The only light leading them was the light seeping through the canopy of leaves above them. They dare not use their wands in worry of getting caught more than the unknown inhabitants of the forest.
"Has anyone seen my sister?" Julian asks once he made it at the Slytherin table where Victoria's friends are having their dinner.
"She left early, said something about having to do some assignment." Jullienne answered him.
He thanked the girl and decided to head to the Gryffindor tower.
Guess he'll just have to tell her the news tomorrow.
It looked too beautiful that Victoria couldn't help the gasp that escaped her lips.
There in the middle of the vast, thick forest was a clearing. It wasn't that big nor was it too small, it was like the gigantic trees agreed to leave that space be where different kinds of flowers grew from the colors red to blue. As if a painting of a field splattered with different colors, the grass looked so lush with how green it is and with the light of the full moon shining directly on the clearing it looked as if it was glowing with beauty and life.
Draco tugged on her hand, leading her by a stone where he leans on as he sits on the soft grass. The girl merely followed still awe-struck by the beauty of the place.
"Beautiful isn't it?" He smiled, though his eyes were trained on the girl beside him.
"Yeah, it is." She said softly, worried of speaking too loud. The place looked too serene and peaceful, it doesn't deserve such treatment.
Victoria turned to look at Draco her face glowing with joy.
"How did you find this place?" She asked, eyes big in wonder as she touched the grass and feeling the soft blades on her skin.
"I got lost." Victoria turned her head towards the boy, a smile filled with incredulity on her face.
"What?" She couldn't help the small chuckle that escaped her lips.
"I got lost during third year. I was just taking a leisurely walk." He shrugged, picking a white flower and slipping it on Victoria's hair. It complimented her auburn hair, Draco thought.
"Wait, third year? With all the dementors out there back then?" She asked, eyebrows furrowed. The slight blush on her cheeks indicating that the boy's actions didn't go unnoticed.
"Yep. Imagine how hard it is to sneak in the forest just to have a walk." He replied, grabbing Victoria's unoccupied hand and playing with her fingers. She could feel her cheeks heating up once more.
"Why would you go on a walk in this forest?" She asked, rather curious with the boy's reason. Could he possibly be running away from things too when he strolls in the forest? Could he be having a simple walk to relieve himself of stress? Or could he be meeting someone underneath the canopy of leaves above them? Her stomach churned with the idea of Draco bringing someone in this place.
"Sometimes, you get too much in your hands, you know. And you just need to be alone and to be in a quiet and peaceful place." He shrugs, intertwining their hands and relishing on the fact that it look perfect together. Like pieces of puzzle falling into place.
"Yeah, I know. So, you just found it?" The boy nodded, his eyes now trained on the girl beside him trying to memorise every detail about her, the way her long, curved eyelashes flutter on her high cheekbones. The steady rise and fall of her chest as she takes in the fresh air, how her eyebrows furrow slightly and how she bites her lower lip as she tries to focus on something.
"Yeah, last year. Nobody knows about this place. Or at least that's what I think." He replied, letting go of her hands as she tries to make a flower crown, weaving the stems of different colored flowers she single-handedly pick.
She hummed in acknowledgement and continued in her work, the silence comfortable for both person.
A few minutes later, with Victoria trying to finish her work and Draco finding ways to make the girl smile or giggle because he loves it when she does those things -she finished the crown and placed in gently on top of Draco's head.
"What's this for?" He chuckled, feeling the soft flowers weaved together to make the crown.
Victoria smiled at the picture in front of her. He looked absolute ethereal.
"Nothing. Just a beautiful crown for a beautiful person."
