20 (Part 1)

"Soobin?" Soobin's mom knocked on Soobin's room's door.

"Y-Yeah?" He answered.

"Are you done with your project?" Soobin's mom slowly opened the door.

"Uhm... Yeah..." Soobin put his phone down frantically before he sat down on the bed. He smiled to reassure his mom.

"You know, if you're done you should just send it now rather then wait for tomorrow or you might forget.." Soobin's mom leans on the door frame.

"Uh... Sure, I'll send it tonight." Soobin kept on smiling.

Even though his smile warmed her heart, she knew it was forced. She saw the sadness in her eyes.

"Baby, is there anything wrong?" She asked as she walked to his son on the bed.

"N-No, why would you say that?"

She sat down near him on the bed as she continued. "I know you, you're my son... Please tell me what's wrong..."

"T-There's nothing wrong..." Soobin turns to look at his mom.

She turned to look at her son's worried face in return. "Soobin, you can trust me... I want to help you the best that I can... Please?" She pleaded as she softly held onto Soobin's hands.

Then and there, Soobin held his head down and his mom could hear his sniffles. Just then, she felt a tiny and soft cold sensation hit her hands. A tear drop.

"I-It's just that... Kai hasn't read any of my messages since he left earlier today..." Soobin looked up at his mom with tears streaming down his eyes.

It broke her. Seeing her son so vulnerable and sad-ridden. She waited for her son to continue in silence as she started rubbing her thumbs on his hands in an attempt at calming him a little.

"I tried sending him a bunch of messages... I even tried calling him..." Soobin sniffled as he let his tears out.

"And m-maybe, he doesn't want me anymore. That's why he left in such a rush and didn't visit me at work." Soobin's eyes plead for comfort.

Soobin's mom could only smile as she brings her son into a hug. "Soobin, stop overthinking... First of all, not only is that a dangerous way to think, but also you assumed something that maybe just is your insecurities speaking..."

Soobin could only nod and cry onto her shoulder as she continued.

"Second, not visiting you at work doesn't mean they don't want you anymore... Nor does rushing out. It could mean they have an important business to attend to." His mom started to caress the back of Soobin's head.

"And third, I know for a fact that Kai has no one else in mind except for you."

She broke off the hug and held his son's cheeks with both her hands, directing his eyes to hers. "Stop crying, okay? Kai doesn't want to find out you were overthinking over this, do you?"

Soobin shook his head.

"Then wipe those tears, send your project to your teacher, and have the best birthday eve this year has to offer you." She smiled which was followed by Soobin letting out a smile and a chuckle.

She let go of him and stood up from the bed before she kissed Soobin's temples. "Goodnight, soon-to-be birthday boy."

"Goodnight, mom..."

Soobin's mom turned to walk towards the door, but soon felt two pairs of hands wrapped around her waist and a weight on her back.

"I love you..." Soobin said, muffled by his mom's shirt.

"What was that, I can't hear you..." She joked.

Soobin lifted his head. "I said I love you!" Soobin quickly let go of his mom out of embarrassment and waddled away to his bed.

She went to the door and turned around, looking at her son's expectant face. "I love you too..." She said as she turned off the lights and closed the door.

The only light source to Soobin's room is now only the moonlight and stars shining serenely into his room.

He opened his phone and opened read his previous messages.

Soobin viewed the messages, still hoping that he suddenly sees them marked as read and the younger typing, but it never came.

He decided to wait a little longer, holding onto that string of hope that the younger would at least read the messages. He plopped his phone down onto the bed with the message app still opened. He grabbed his laptop from the bedside table and opened it to send his project over. Hr revised a bit of his project before he sent it to his teacher's way.

Once he put his laptop away, he paused before looking back at the phone on the bed, faced down. He took a really deep inhale and exhaled appropriately, really wishing the younger would at least read them.

He braved it through and picked his phone up, sighing when unsurprisingly, Kai hadn't read the messages.

"What time is it?" He whispered to himself as he checked the bar on the top part of his phone.

"Huh... 10.30 already..." He sighed again.

He quickly turned that frown upside down, smiling brightly at the screen as he typed a text.

With that, he closed his phone. He plugged it up to the charger on his bed side table to charge it for tomorrow. He snuggled up to bed and got to a comfortable position.

"Happy birthday eve, binnie~" He louzily said as he drifted off to sleep.
