Luna stayed over at Kiara's house that night. She was so horrified by everything that just happened that she felt if she were to see Topper Thornton, it would be almost impossible to not knee him in the balls. And punch his face. And kick his shins.
She had sat back seat of Kiara's parents car they let her borrow, with JJ, whilst Pope occupied the passenger seat. For the most part, the drive was quiet. No one knew really what to say, the three pogues partly not wanting to offend Luna by talking about her family. The metaphorical steam that blew out her ears, however, indicated her own rage at the situation. Her long sleeve light jumper meant she was yet to see her wrist and the mark Rafe had left, but she could feel the bruising without having to even touch it.
Instead the girl spent the majority of the drive trying to wash JJ's face with the small wipes she found in the first aid kit Kiara's parents left in the back of the car. It was an odd sort of position, leaning over the seat towards him whilst still with a seat belt on. She had made everyone buckle up, not letting Kie drive off until they had. Occasionally, the blonde boy would hiss or swear at the stinging, but he actually seemed to be coping well with his obtained injuries. Luna was impressed.
"There." She eventually whispered once the blood had all been wiped away, leaning back in her seat to admire his face. But not in that way. She was admiring how he was no longer bleeding, because she helped him... right?
She was so happy they were friends, that he talked to her like normal. Whatever had happened the other day seemed to remove any disagreements they had, instead causing plenty of funny moments between them. The girl was a little surprised because it was as if he had completely dropped any negative thoughts within just a few hours. Though whilst it was nice, it wasn't really the main thing occupying her thinking space right now.
JJ grinned back. He had been in his fair share of fights so hadn't been too majorly effected by what happened. Plus the kooks didn't have proof it was Pope so that was the worst they could do, and it was over. Or at least he hoped so. He had definitely noticed how shaken up Luna was, how infuriated she was too. He tried not to make it too obvious as she cleaned him up, but he couldn't stop watching her. She would occasionally bite her lip in concentration, eyebrows furrowed deep in thought. That feeling was back, the one that made him feel so furious at her. Though he was beginning to feel that maybe he wasn't mad at her but rather himself, because he couldn't figure out what was different when he was around the girl.
There were another few moments of silence before Luna spoke again, this time louder, and aimed at the other boy sat in the front, who had just finished wiping his own nose in the mirror. "Pope?"
"Yeah." He coughed slightly, throat still sore after nearly being suffocated, and Luna felt her heart drop at the sound.
"I'm really sorry."
