And just like that, he was off again, zooming away without a single look back. John B left his friends behind, all confused, all scared. Luna didn't know John B very well, however she knew he didn't usually act like this. The boy was more careful, not usually as reckless as he seemed to be in that brief encounter. He had his heated moments sure, but the rage on his face was different and it was genuine.
Although, if what he said was true, maybe he had a reason to be angry. The girl knew that if she found out someone so close to her had been the one to kill her mom, she would not be thinking straight. Plus he said 'Ward knows about the gold', did that mean he was going after it too? This of course would make the anger grow even more, because from what Luna could tell, it was his father who had wanted him to find the treasure.
The thought of that in itself made her frown. Ward had always been fairly nice to her, giving her the map the other week and greeting her at the door and so on, but he'd always had that something about him that wasn't quite right. Maybe this was it. But then she felt bad, some distorted sense of guilt arising. They were talking about her best friend's father here; someone had been constantly supportive of Sarah. The golden girl used to talk about Ward with such enthusiasm, such love...how was she going to react to this?
"What the fuck?" Kiara eventually breathed out, breaking the loud silence between them. Both her and Pope had made a quick attempt at chasing after their gun wielding friend, but against the motorbike it wasn't much use and he was gone in seconds. "Did that really just happen?"
"Yep." Pope nodded in a strange mixture of panic and disbelief. "It definitely did. We're screwed. We're really screwed. If they catch him with the gun they'll trace it back to us and the party and the hotel and I have my interview in the morning and it's gonna be cancelled and they're gonna hate me and I'll never-"
"Pope, woah." JJ walked up to him and tried to hold down his flailing arms as he paced around on the spot. "Chill man. It's gonna be fine. He won't use it."
"How do you know that? Hmm?" Pope stared directly at him, eyebrows raised expectantly. "He pushed you over too then did he not?"
"Yeah he pushed me, so what. A push is a lot different to shooting someone."
"Of course you'd know that." He scoffed and shook the boy off him, continuing to pace, this time taking off his backward cap to rub his head. JJ took a step back, face dropping ever so slightly but both girls noticed.
"That was unnecessary Pope." Kiara scolded. Said teen just rolled his eyes.
"Should we go after him?" Luna finally spoke up drawing all attention to her. "I mean you said he wouldn't use it, and I believe you, but maybe we should find him just in case."
"Yeah. Yeah that's a good idea." JJ nodded. She felt yet another rise of guilt when he agreed with her, because was this what he wanted when he went off by himself? Was he expecting them to look for him? She bit her lip and tried to let the thought drift from her mind. It was too late for that now anyway.
