"Why don't I go ahead and see those hands in the air."
Luna felt her heart drop. The chill that ran down her spine made her completely freeze up, and the sickly nervous feeling boiling in her stomach was the worst it had ever been she thought in her life. This was no police, that was obvious now, but who he really was she dreaded to think. Because now her hands were clammy and her face was pale and the barrel of a gun was pointed right in the face of her friend.
The girl had never liked guns. They did too much damage, even when in the right hands. This man clearly wasn't the 'right hands', and so she tried not to imagine the endless possibilities of what could go wrong in the next few minutes. Someone could get hurt, any of them. All of them could get hurt. And this wasn't like the kind of fights the pogues had with the kooks, they were messy disagreements filled with flying fists and bruised faces. If a bullet were to fly, you'd end up with a lot more than a bruised face. You could end up dead. She hated JJ's, but she'd forgotten he even had it the last few days.
"All of you's hands up in the air right now!" The masked man yelled again, this time louder. Luna flinched as he moved his aim towards the quartet in the back, but she couldn't look away. "You. Out of the car. Let's go!"
John B did exactly as he said and stepped out of his seat with his hands in the air. More instructions were barked at him aggressively, but the boy remained surprisingly calm and did as he was told. Luna, on the other hand, was not calm. She could feel her breathing increasing, but she couldn't stop herself. It was like she was drowning; her lungs filling with water but the surface too far away. The heavy feeling of being completely overwhelmed was too much and the girl could feel her hands begin to shake.
The others in the back were also filled with a sudden dread. So much so none of them really noticed the trembling girl who was struggling to keep her breathing steady. She wanted to curse at herself for seeming so weak, it was the last thing anyone needed, but her mind wouldn't stop racing. They probably felt the same, just were a lot better at hiding it.
A warm hand was placed suddenly over her own, snapping the girl out of her thoughts of bodies and blood. She looked down in fright, but when she recognised the familiar rings she let herself un-tense just a little bit. JJ was smiling at her. It was a smile filled with unease and fear, but he was trying his best to assure her they'd be okay.
"We're gonna be fine." He mouthed, not letting go of her hand. The girl nodded, and as she closed her eyes in an attempt to calm herself, a tear made its way down her face. She was fine, she was okay. Except she wasn't. So she took JJ's hand and held it tightly, squeezing it as if it were the only thing keeping her safe.
The van door opened loudly, causing Luna to turn herself to it with a jump. John B was waiting there, the man and his gun beckoning everyone out. Sarah was the first to climb out slowly, her body moving quickly over to her boyfriend.
