"Remember to put a knife in. And a fork."
"What?"
"He's not gonna be able to use his hands for everything." Luna was sat on the counter, her eyes following Kiara as she marched back and forth through the Wreck kitchen. Each round of the cupboards she made, she added more to the large box JJ was hovering over.
"Oh yeah, 'sppose" The blonde boy was stuffing as much into the box as possible. It was John B's food source for his escape plan, though it was hard to determine how much he needed when they couldn't tell how long he'd be away. Perhaps this was why Kie kept adding more and more and more, or perhaps it was to distract herself from the argument she just had with Pope.
JJ glanced from Kie, still tight-lipped and silent, to Luna. She didn't really know what else she could say to make her friend feel better about the argument they'd just had. She knew Kie was the type to shrug it off whilst they dealt with the more important matter at hand, but she also knew it would be bothering her to no end until they sorted it all out. Why was everything going wrong?
"You sure he wasn't just being weird Pope?" JJ eventually asked.
"It wasn't really the kind of thing that needed interpretation." The girl deadpanned. "Is that gonna be enough food for him?"
"I mean, for a couple of weeks, and that's all he'll need, so..."
Luna hopped down from her perch on the surface and lightly squeezed JJ's arm from behind. "There's plenty there, he'll be fine. You did a good job. Are your parents alright with you taking this?"
"They'll have to be." She sighed and put one last loaf of bread in, before pausing. "Look, I think I actually hurt his feelings."
"Hey, wait." JJ followed her sudden movement to the door, and Luna trailed behind them both. "Don't beat yourself up. He's completely changed his feels. The past twenty four hours have been like Jekyll and Hide."
She picked up one of the large water bottles they'd left beside the door and carried it outside, grimacing at the mention of the novel she'd had to study in English. She hadn't liked reading that for class, not at all. "He'll come around."
"I hate to admit it, but I miss the old Pope. At least I knew what to expect from him."
It sounded as though she were about to continue, however all conversation stopped at the appearance of a new woman's shrill voice. Luna recognized her as Kie's mom straight away- they'd met a few times in various passing. "Where have you been?!"
"Lu, come put the stuff down." The girl found herself being pulled towards the trunk of the car by JJ. He'd put the box down in a position where hopefully it wouldn't all fall apart as they drove. She slid the large bottle in next to it with a nervous glance to where Kie was dealing with her mother.
