Red was the colour of her neck. It matched JJ's face, and his hands too; faint marks of handprints and fists that would be sure to bruise in due time. Luna caught herself lightly wincing anytime she moved her head just a little too quick, or shutting her eyes for prolonged periods in an attempt to soothe her throbbing headache.
It took just three minutes to reach the dock they were meeting John B at; probably would have been quicker than that if not for the boat Kiara was towing along. It bumped along the road behind them, though luckily without breaking off and falling behind- JJ was worried he hadn't attached it securely enough with the rush of everything. On top of that, they were all worried Rafe and Barry were on their tail now too, let alone the police.
"Is this it?" Kiara asked, peering over the wheel at the small wooden port leading out onto open water.
"Yeah." JJ confirmed with a nod
"Will it definitely fit?" Luna leaned forward too, eyes scanning the area. They were hidden and out the way, sheltered by trees, but whether they'd actually be able to fit the boat down there was another thing.
Kiara straightened back into her seat with a look of determination and one last glance back into her mirror. "It'll have to."
After turning around and reversing carefully, they found that the boat would indeed fit perfectly. They climbed out the car quickly and Luna tried her best to assist as they pushed it further out and loaded it with the supplies they'd packed that morning. Even that felt like an age ago. She wondered whether Kie's mom was still out looking for her, or whether her own aunt had been searching. She wondered what had happened to Topper the last few days.
"Dude where is he?" Kiara was pacing again, up and down with hands waving in the air. Though she supposed it made sense why: they'd agreed to meet him at three, but now the sun was setting and they were hitting golden hour. They'd know if he'd been caught...right?
Pope was remaining impressively calm for Pope, but then again he'd changed quite drastically over the last few days. He'd gained a certain confidence he hadn't really had before, Luna noticed. "Give him a second. He'll be here."
"He's coming. He'll be fine." JJ was removing all sorts of panels and pressing all kinds of buttons inside of the Phantom, none of it made any sense to the girl lingering awkwardly at his side. She wanted to help, but there was little to do now, they were all just waiting in silent anticipation.
But then suddenly it wasn't silent, and instead they were being greeted by a large screaming siren. Luna's stomach sunk. "JJ?"
"What? Oh, shit. Stay here." He looked around frantically. "Pope, Kie, get back on the boat!"
"Shit."
"Get back on the boat. Quick. Untie it."
"Wait," Her eyes narrowed as the brunette watched the cop car, and the rush of fear calmed. "Wait, guys."
