For six centuries, My sister and I were loyal soldiers of the vampire clan. But we were betrayed. The war was not as it had seemed. In one night, the lies that had united our kind had been exposed. Kraven, our second in command had for a secret alliance with Lucian, ruler of the werewolf clan to overthrow Viktor, our leader. But Kraven's lust for power and domination had failed. Viktor was not the savior my sister was led to believe. He had betrayed us all. Soon the hunt will be on for his killers. We have but one ally left: Michael, the human descendant of Corvinus. Neither vampire nor Lycan but a hybrid. It's only a matter of time before we are found. Our only hope is to awaken Marcus, our last remaining elder, and expose the truth before Kraven tries to murder him while he is still in hibernation. The snake knows he's no match for him awake.
My sister, Michael, and I were walking through the Hungarian woods to get to a safe house that was hidden in a tunnel near a demolished set of train tracks. When we got into the safe house, we saw how dark it was and tried to turn on the lights. Selene flipped a switch a few times only to find that the power was off. "Perfect," she said sarcastically. I turned on my flashlight and went looking for the fuse box. Selene and Michael followed me in search of it. I pointed my flashlight around so I wouldn't stumble into anything or be suddenly attacked. I kept doing so until the light beam showed a Lycan at the other end of the room. Selene opened fired at it only to see that it didn't even flinch. I guess we were just jumpy because when I found the fusebox and flip the switches to turn the lights on, I saw that Michael's eyes were pitch black and his nails were now claws, ready to attack. Selene and I walked over to the Lycan body to find injection guns on a metal table next to it. "This thing has been dead for weeks," Selene said putting the gun down.
Michael walked up close to the body and started to examined it with his eyes "I thought Lycans went back to their human forms when they die"
I nodded and walked up next to him. "They do." I told him "This one has been given a serum to stop regression, so it could be studied" I had a slight smile on my face watching my sister's lover grow curious of the Lycan.
"How can you tell?" He asked dumbly. Selene just showed him the tag that was dangling on the side of the metal frame that was keeping the body standing. He grabbed the tag from her and read what she had told him while Selene and I went to check the computers and gather our weapons for the way back to the mansion"Not quite your department, I guess"
"We just kill them," Selene said bluntly. "We don't pay much attention to their anatomy." Selene brought up how much time he had until sunrise.
"How long can we stay here?" Michael asked us as I walked to the weapons wall.
"Not long," I told him opening the grate that secured the weapons. "These safe houses are all linked together on one mainframe, with motion sensors that show which one is currently active." I grabbed a pair of daggers that were held in two-leg sheaths before strapping them to each one of my legs. Old habits die hard I guess
Selene looked at Michael before saying "Someone could have picked us up already" She walked to the grate next to me and got a handful of lightsticks, retractable silver ninja stars, and a few other things and put them in a bag.
"Will you two be able to get back to the mansion before sunrise?" Michael asked us. Selene told him we would just make it. "Ok, let's get what we need and go." He opened another grate to grab some weapons.
"No," Selene told him. "We're going alone" She walked over to where the ammunition and a few more supplies were at. "If we can plead our case, there's a chance that you'll be granted sanctuary." she put a few supplies in the bag.
"She's right, Michael," I said loading my guns. "If you go near the mansion now, you'll be killed on sight. We're not prepared to risk it."
He turned his head to me "What should I do, wait?" he turned his head towards Selene "No, Kraven may still have his men with him. You two are not going alone."
"You're not as strong as you might think" I whispered towards him
"What?"
Selene turned her head to him before saying "Michael, you're unique. There's never been a hybrid before. However ambivalent you feel about it, your powers could be limitless."
"But like the rest of us, you depend on blood to stay that way," I told him as Selene pulled blood bags from the fridge
"You need to feed, without it, you'll grow weaker by the second. Use the time for that" Selene handed him a blood bag.
"Jesus Christ" Micheal whispered, clearly against the whole thing "And what if I don't? What if I can't?"
"Normal food could be lethal. If you anticipate your cravings, you'll attack humans." Selene told him with no hesitation
"And believe us. You don't want that on your conscious" I told him as I grabbed a blood bag for myself. I stared down at the red liquid in the bag before looking at Michael once more. "There really is no going back, Michael."
Michael and Selene looked at each other for a moment before Selene broke the eye contact and mumbled "I'm sorry" with regret and guilt laced in her voice.
Michael knew what she meant as did I. "Look, I understand what you did. I'm grateful" he said giving her a warm but small smile. "You saved my life. I wasn't ready to die." Selene stared at him for a moment before looking back down and Michael did the same. "I don't know. Everything's changed. I probably need a minute to make it all fit in my head. It's a lot to process all at once." He looked at us both before walking closer to Selene. "Look, you two go, I'll be here." he then looked to me. "Both of you just make sure you two come back" he looked back at Selene when he said to come back. I could tell that Selene was still hesitant about making a move on the hybrid man for she walked away after looking like she was going to kiss him.
I stood up and looked at the man. "Sorry that I can't stay with you like last time. But please drink the blood. You seriously don't want to be riddled with guilt for attacking humans."
"I understand. I just don't know if I can do it. I just became a hybrid and before that, I didn't even know you people existed." He said placing the blood bag on a table.
"We understand that Michael because we were once the same. Unlike you, we were trained and by other vampires. So please listen to us when we say that you need to drink." I placed my hand on his shoulder. "Also next time you and Selene have a moment, be a man and kiss the woman," I said with a soft smile on my face.
Michael chuckled. "And when you finally find someone. Woman up and kiss them." I laughed softly and patted his shoulder before leaving the safe house with my sister.
