#51 THANK THE LORD I FINALLY DID A REQUEST

Requested: @-positivelypaige

Prompt: 10. "Aren't you supposed to hate me?"

Warning(s): mature language

Jay saw Y/n at the end of the hall.

He panicked internally, trying to keep a frown on his face as they walked by each other. She scowled and so did he. His heated glare dropped when she was out of sight. Jay let out a breath he unconsciously held, coming out more as a sigh. They 'hated' each other for as long as anyone could remember.

It was more of a miscommunication what had happened. It was a simple conversation with Jay and Cole talking about how Edna was coming over and Jay dreading it. Y/n overheard, thinking (assuming) that the conversation was about her. She only came a week prior to the conversation, and everything was fresh as daisies.
At least she thought.

When Jay wanted to talk to her two weeks AFTER the visit of Edna, not everything turned out well. She started to insult him, yelling out words she knew that wasn't true. But Y/n couldn't keep her guard down for her to cry again like she did the night of the miscommunicated chat. Jay was thrown way off edge, baffled of what she thought of him in a month. He already had his doubts about himself, and the team was helping him grow his self-esteem; after realizing how awful they've been to him.

He knew he was talkative and can get annoying, but he wasn't that bad.
When she was done, she was crying. So was he. He just wanted to ask her if she wanted to join them for dinner at Chen's noodle house. He didn't expect that whole rant on how worthless he was and how rude he was. Jay knew he wasn't rude. He doesn't judge people.
The words were hard to form after that mouthful. "I- I...just wanted to ask you- if you...if you wanted t- to go to Chen's...with us," he admitted the reason why he came towards her in the first place.
Harshly wiping his tears he turned around and started to walk away. Y/n stood there agape, thought that he was a stuck up and was going to beat her down with words.
How the turn tables.
Jay pivoted his heel to face towards her, licking his lips as they suddenly became dry. His hands fidgeted together, a force of habit when he was nervous. "Th- Thank you...for telling me what you actually think about me. I'll stay out of your way."

He turned back around and walked away. Y/n was going to apologize the day after but he gave her the cold shoulder. That went on for a few weeks until she gave up. At least she was trying to admit her fault with forgetting that conversation he had about her.
Jay would glare at her, sneer, a side eye. Anything, just anything to get her off of him.
Y/n was fed up with the sudden mood change and continued to do it back.

That was five months ago.

Now they were still at each other's throats, with very little words exchanged. Wu was getting tired of the nonsense and tried to get them to make up.
Didn't work and made them hate each other more. It was taking such a toll on the team that one of them had to stay back on the mission. It was mostly Y/n since she was still the most inexperienced one in the monastery. She had a few words to say about that.

"Are you fucking kidding me?! This is the fifth mission that I stayed back on! Why can't I go?!"

Kai pretended to think. "Maybe if you guys made up for whatever, maybe both of you could go. Oh wait- you can."

She didn't like that answer. "No way," she crossed her arms.

"Eh, your loss," he shrugged, summoning his fiery red dragon.

"Jay, I want you both to stay back here. I'll go on the mission," Wu said, walking towards the ninja.
Things got a turn for the worse.

"No way!" They both said.

"I give out orders!" He stomped his staff. Jay groaned, scattering his dragon while Wu did the opposite. They left immediately as it was left with them two only. Jay sighed, heading inside.

"I'm making dinner!" He told her, going to the kitchen. Jay wasn't the best cook as he specialized in more of the baking spectrum due to the lovely grace of his mother. His food was edible and decent. No one really complained when it was his turn nor did anyone praise like if it was Zane's, Nya's or Kai's turn. Especially Zane's.
A little over half an hour passed and he made tacos with leftover ingredients in the fridge. He left a bunch for the team for when they get back, and left some out for Y/n if she was hungry.
She was hungry.
She came by, looking around for anything to munch. "There's some for you on the counter," Jay called out while he ate his own and scrolled through his phone. Y/n finally found it and saw how delicious it looked. But she didn't want to eat something that her 'enemy' made. Her stomach growled and she caved. Taking the plate, she sat across Jay who payed no attention to her.

After taking a bite, she was in l o v e.
She didn't realize how fast she was eating until it was all gone. She was still hungry and knew that the extras were for the team's return. Jay glances at her and noticed her frown. He grimaced, pushing his plate towards her. It had two more tacos left, his appetite wasn't as big as he thought it was.
She looked at him big eyed. "What is this?"

"Tacos. Unless they have a different name," he replied nonchalantly, not taking a second to see her perplexed expression.

"Why're you being nice to me? Aren't you supposed to hate me?"

That comment made his eyes leave his device. He gulped, sitting up straighter as he turned off his phone. "Not really. Nya told me your side of the story, this whole quarrel we've been having is stupid."

"What do you mean?" She asked, slowly taking a bite of the taco.

"What you heard between me and Cole was about my mom, not you."

She got hit with a truck full of dumbass. "Holy shit!—" she quickly gulped down her food "—I'm so..so sorry. I've been talked about and I- I thought it was happening again."

He laughed, a small smile on his face. "Hakuna Matata. No worries." (thepurplemasterofair haha inspo by ya)

She also laughed at the lion king reference. "What I said about you wasn't true. I didn't even know half the stuff I was saying."

"Nya explained that part as well. In fact, I kinda grew on liking you three months ago."

"You knew about the truth for that long."

"Yeah...you just never gave me the chance to explain." Silence fell between them, the comforting cleared silence.

"There's a new movie playing in the city this Friday," she mentioned discreetly, realizing her feelings for him.

"And?"

"And I wanted to know if you would join me?"

"I'll think about it."

"Jay-"

"I'm kidding," he chuckled. He looked around before his eyes fell on hers. "I'm glad we talked this out."

"Me too."
