promise it has been half procrastinating and half working on other stuff + school

this was interesting to write. this wasn't as close to my heart as i would've liked but it hit the spot.

The team minus Kai were eavesdropping.

With the missing member at the moment, there was an idea of who they were listening in to. Kai was in his room, on the phone with his current girlfriend, Skylor. However, a business owner and a ninja wasn't the usual pair, nor was it a sustainable one. He had her on speaker, afraid that he was going to light his phone on fire, again. She was yelling through the phone and Kai? He responded calmly...logically even. As logical as the man could get. Maybe that was what made Skylor even angrier? They used to have screaming fests with her but ever since the incident he didn't have the energy nor spark in himself to keep up with that rage.

The teenage hormones that fueled his anger was gone. The incident changed him a complete one-eighty. He was an easy person to read, however that was becoming less and less true as the days and weeks pass. Sometimes they thought that he was masking his feelings through his plain responses, but he wasn't. He didn't care for things as much as he did.

"...Skylor, I promised to come tomorrow, not today. I said Saturday because I wasn't on patrol. I can't come today because I told you I have plans already."

"Oh! So you're flaking out on me again?! Typical Kai Smith, not caring for the girlfriend he pushed to have! You know what? Don't come over tomorrow. In fact, don't come ever because we are done! You never listen! You're just a ego-filled narcissistic asshole! I forgave every single one of your fuckups, not anymore! We are done! You hear me!"

He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. The headache that formed hours ago slightly grew worse with each syllable that left her mouth. He was tired. "Skylor...I am only going to say this once. You can say anything you want about me, call me all of these names, but we both know what's the truth. Call me back when you've cooled down."

"Are you serious?! What point of 'we are done' do you not understand?"

"We are, due to this conversation we are having, I had already thought of three ways to break up with you. But thank you for doing it for me. You're too angry to have a civil conversation, we can talk later."

"Tsk, the tables have turned then."

"I guess they have. Later, Skylor."

"Bye." Then the phone beeped twice, indicating the other party hung up. Kai rubbed his scalp with the pad of his fingers (hair gel lol). An attempt to collect his thoughts. He had plans to visit the orphanage and his ex broke up with him because of that. He couldn't do anything right, could he. He tried to disregard the conversation but he was certain that it would replay in his head for the rest of the evening.

"Zane, are you still coming with me to go tonight?!" He yelled from his room, too tired to go search for him.

"Yes," he responded, but he sounded like he was really close. The fire ninja didn't ignore that factor and raised his notched eyebrow. Walking towards his door, he found his teammates littered very close to his door. Looking at them suspiciously, he pieced it together. The ice ninja stood in front with a smile, no ounce of guilt on his titanium face. He thought he did it out of concern, however, the faces of the rest of the team shows anything but that.
