Kendra’s POV
“Magkakilala kayo, Pa?”
Parang wala siyang narinig at hindi inalis ang tingin sa akin.
“So, is it true?” Bawat tingin niya, pakiramdam ko, hinihigop ang hininga ko. I can sense his superiority. How can I not notice it the first time? He’s exactly the same as Ethan’s aura. Definitely a Collin.
“Pa--”
“Akin ang--”
“Is it his child, Ms. Lopez?”
“I..” I find it hard to speak when his eyes are intently looking at me. His face shows no emotion but his presence alone sends thousands of shivers to my bones. “W-We, we still don’t know yet, Sir.”
“Kendra!” Narinig kong sigaw ni Ate Elise.
“Pa, hayaan niyo na akong umayos nito.”
“Geraldo,” tawag sa kaniya ng matandang babae.
“Pa, she’s staying with me. And—“ he stared at me before continuing, “I know that child is mine.” May kung anong kumurot sa puso ko. Ethan, stop sending me mixed signals. I don’t want to live with those false hopes again. I don’t want to continue this make-believe and fall in the end without you to catch me.
“Sinabihan na kitang mag-ingat kung may kalokohan ka mang gagawin, pero ano ‘to? Hindi ka marunong makinig, EJ. How can you be this careless?” Napayuko na lang ako sa mga sinabi niya. Am I just a product of his carelessness? “Now what? She’s not even sure kung sa iyo nga ba talaga ang batang iyan.”
“Pa, hindi ganyan si Kendra.”
“Isa ka pa, Jeunice.” Parang lahat na lang ng tao sa paligid ko nadadamay sa kamalasang dala ko. “Naturingan ka pang panganay pero hindi mo naman magawang mapatino itong kapatid mo.”
“Walang kasalanan si Ate dito kaya huwag niyo na siyang idamay.”
“EJ, wag mong sagutin nang ganiyan ang Papa mo.”
“She’ll stay with me, until she gives birth. Then--” I can already predict the next words he’ll say. “Then we’ll have the baby tested.”
