Chapter 35: Cyberspace

Techopedia says cyberspace refers to the virtual computer world, and more specifically, is an electronic medium used to form a global computer network to facilitate online communication. It is a large computer network made up of many worldwide computer networks that employ TCP/IP protocol to aid in communication and data exchange activities.

Cyberspace's core feature is an interactive and virtual environment for a broad range of participants.

Cyberspace allows users to share information, interact, swap ideas, play games, engage in discussions or social forums, conduct business and create intuitive media, among many other activities.

The term cyberspace was initially introduced by William Gibson in his 1984 book, "Neuromancer." Gibson criticized the term in later years, calling it "evocative and essentially meaningless." Nevertheless, the term is still widely used to describe any facility or feature that is linked to the Internet.

According to Alphonce Bhoke, some advantages of cyberspace are informational resources, entertainment, and social networking.

The Internet is a virtual library of information. You can get any kind of information on any topic that you desire, it will be available on the Internet. There are search engines like Google and Yahoo and they are at your service 24 hours a day and 7 days a week... You can get information like who was the first person to fly a plane or the dollar's current value.

Yet, if you use the Internet for online banking, social networking, or other services, you may risk theft of your personal information such as name, address, credit card number, etc. Unscrupulous people can access this information through unsecured connections or by planting software and then use your personal details for their benefit.

Needless to say, this may land you in serious trouble. Spamming refers to sending unwanted e-mails in bulk, which provide no purpose and needlessly obstruct the entire system. Such illegal activities can be very frustrating for you as it makes your Internet slower and less reliable.

The big monitor that this SIU is using had shown a lot about cyberspace and its great advantage and disadvantage. They are using other pieces of information and not about what they've known. Are they really don't want to share their deepest secrets with us just because we are also from another organization, and more likely amazing than them? Nah, I don't think so. Because I know even the most loved person by many people have his or her secrets that even cyberspace cannot share.

And their building, of course. Simple outside, but it looks amazing inside. There are gadgets and different technology everywhere. Parang nasa conference nga kami ng mga magagaling na hacker eh. But I really don't like the setting. All eyes are on us even that guy in front who is about to talk something, but someone interrupted him. At isa pa, naiinis ako kasi maliban sa taong nasa harap, kami lang ang nandito sa loob na parang auditurium.

"I've heard Mr. Luvitski will go here and meet us personally especially you and Charlie."

"Of course not!"

"Then why you are staring at them like they are your gods?"
