That break away from Hogwarts did wonders to Finley for sure, she had the chance to catch up on her sleep, her nightmares weren't present. And for the whole break she had the chance to breath. And during the break she was thankful that she spent it with Mirelle Thorns, though it was for a short while she missed the Christmases that she spent with the woman when she wasn't attending Hogwarts yet.

Her Christmas day was eventful, her presents came in a swarm, house elves kept popping in and out from the loft. And by the time it was noon the Christmas tree in Mirelle's living room was full of boxes.

She received letters from Hogwarts from her Gryffindor friends, a few gifts from the trio, even a plant from Neville which Finley loved so much that she placed it in front of her bedroom window.

Everything was perfect until she received an odd gift a day before she gets back to Hogwarts, taking note for it might be from the person who gave her the snake ring from first year. She wouldn't know, and she certainly wanted to open it with her best friends by her side, to be safe and have witnesses if anything bad happens.

"Finley, have you finished packing yet?" She turned towards the door of her bedroom and saw Mirelle Thorns holding a tray of food. Smiling back at the french woman, she placed the mysterious present back in her trunk and took the tray from the woman.

"Just a few more things Ms Thorns," she smiled placing the tray on the desk by the table.

"That's good," the woman nodded as her eyes skimmed through the room which the young girl just started to decorate. Sitting down on a chaise, observing the fussy Finley placing her things in her trunk.

"So this summer? You'll be staying with me?" Mirelle asked cautiously, remembering the alarming letter she received from Finley a few days along with asking for permission to stay with her for the holidays. She didn't know much but, she knew that the poor girl was shattered without knowing the story. She knew it the moment she saw her get down from the Hogwarts train, she wasn't smiling as brightly as she stepped on it from the start of the year.

"That's if you'll have me?" Finley bit her lip, praying that the woman who took care of her her whole life would not turn her back on her.

Mirelle sighed, she would if it was that simple, the ministry would be involved especially if Severus would deny the request of her to move in with Mirelle. And knowing the professor, he would do so because first of all she had no official right. Mirelle loved the girl when she first took part time jobs before she worked in the ministry of London.

But seeing the situation now, she wasn't sure if Severus would allow her to have Finley. The worst was that he bans her from ever seeing the girl again and it would tear her apart.

"Ms Thorns?"

"I could if he allows me my petit minou," the woman said sadly.

"I see," Finley pursed her lip.

Feeling a pair of hands on her shoulders pulling her into an embrace, relishing the warmth the woman gave her. It was the closest warmth she had ever gotten from a maternal figure, and it breaks her heart.

"I can go ask him if you'd like, it's better for you to have time apart, yes?"

"I suppose," Finley mumbles under her breath, looking out towards a stack of New years gifts that she received from her friends.

"I'll go ask Dewy for your dinner, you leave for Hogwarts tomorrow, best that you sleep early," Mirelle suggested, kissing the girl's hair and walking out the bed room. Now that the woman was gone, this left Finley to her thoughts again. Grabbing a quill and her journal that Harry had given her the year before.
