Only the Slytherins know how terrifying it was to disturb Finley Evans during quizzes and practical exams, homework was one thing but during quizzes and practicals it was worst. But then when an innocent group of Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors entered the library and began wrecking havoc, the sound of a quill snapping almost made them run back to the common rooms to hide. The day started when the news that the final exams were coming for first years, the news was depressing and all but it shouldn't have caused much debacles for first years if they weren't threatened to be held back a year for not passing. They say that the Gryffindor Granger had her way and tutored Harry and Ron on every subject that they were behind so far, kind of her to do.
Slytherins expected the girl Finley to do the same for she was after all as clever if not more than the Gryffindor friend of hers, but no. She locked herself in the room on weekends, she snapped at Theo and Blaise for their pointless shenanigans, and it was only a week after the exams were announced to happen a whole month from now.
"Relax Finney, we have a month and the text books aren't going to run away from you," Theo teased as he stuffed a treacle tart in his mouth. The three Slytherins were sat in the Great Hall in free period, much to Finley's dismay of wanting to be in the library, it was hogged by students who were taking their OWLs and NEWTs this year. The common room was a land mine, much like she was for their exams, one unnecessary noise would set off a hexing fit from fifth and seventh years.
"Plus, haven't you heard of relaxing after an hour of studying? You'll bleed your nose with all the reading that you're doing," Blaise said as he stacked her scattered books on the side.
She would if she could, but it was physically not possible to her, the glory of being the first in her year was the type of glory that would set off her whole Hogwarts stay for the next six years. If she fails first year then she feels like she would fail the years to come.
"Feed me a licorish wand or I won't help you study," she said as she continued scribbling important notes on a notebook that Harry gave her for Christmas. Thankful for how thick the notebook was, it withstood all the notes she crammed in from first term.
"It's not our OWLs year Evans," Theo said feeding her the licorish wand that she asked for.
"It's just an exam to get us to second year."
"Well I'll have you know that I plan to top this year," she said finally tearing off her eyes from her writing.
"You plan to take down Granger are you?" Blaise asked amused. Never in his days while being friends with her would he have thought that she was competitive, she always seemed to care too much for potions and DADA which was justifiable since Professor Snape taught her tricks of his own.
"Just to satisfy my pride Zabini, Granger doesn't match me," she cracked a smile.
"Been a whole week since I've seen that smile of yours Evans," a voice said from behind her.
"Been observing me have you now Malfoy?" She snapped at the blond boy. Behind Draco were his two large bodied friends who held his books and bag for him, like maids for a prat master.
"Just saying that you looked like an old woman like McGonagall for the week with that hideous bun and all," he remarked still smirking.
"Are you telling me that I look fabulous then? McGonagall is a fabulous woman," she teased. The exchange was odd among them, especially their friends who often see their friends who usually saw them on each other's throats. They thought that they hated each other, or maybe they both knew something about each other and agreed to never speak of it.
