Chapter 5

"Daniella? Gawin na natin yung inventory ngayon."

Tiningala ko si Kaith na halos hindi makatingin ng diretso sa akin. I put down my phone and crossed my arms before looking at her seriously.

"Ngayon? Akala ko bang bukas na lang? Besides, our next class is in..." Sabi ko bago tinignan ang relo ko. "23 minutes."

"Nalipat kasi yung lakad ko bukas." Na-uutal nyang sabi kaya ipina-ikot ko ang mga mata ko.

"Fine but after class na lang. It's our last subject na rin naman." Sabi ko before I took my phone but she still didn't left on my side kaya tinignan ko sya and she looks weird dahil sa malikot na mga mata at namumutlang mukha.

"Pwedeng ngayon na talaga, Daniella? Kasi diba? 7 pm matatapos ang klase natin, hindi kasi ako pwedeng late na umuwi. Please." Pag-mamakaawa nya kaya inis akong bumuntong-hininga bago tumayo na nakapagpa-atras sa kanya.

"Okay. Let's just make it fast." Inis kong sabi before I grabbed my bag.

I saw Joyce staring at us kaya tumigil ako sa harapan nya and looked at her with an arched brow. She looked back at me for a second bago sya yumuko then I rolled my eyes before we went out of the room.

We silently walked towards the maintenance room malapit sa Engineering Department dahil doon kami naka-toka. Kaith is my partner sa isang major namin and kailangan naming mag-inventory para sa term paper namin and I always roll my eyes everytime I think about counting cleaning materials.

"Sorry, Daniella. Sorry talaga. Blinackmail kasi ako ni Joyce kaya sorry."

Hinarap ko si Kaith dahil sa sinabi nya and the moment na makaharap ako sa kanya ay syang pagtulak nya sa akin kaya bumagsak ako sa sahig. Before I could even stand, she closed the door and I heard a click kaya mabilis akong tumayo para subukang buksan ang pinto but it is already locked.

Galit akong sumigaw and banged on the door.

"Kaith! Open the door now! Kaith! If you don't open this goddamn door, I will make sure you'll regret going against me! Kaith!" Sigaw ko but I heard nothing from the other side.

Umalis na siguro sya and that's a good decision for her because the moment I get out of here, ay mas gugustuhin nyang sya na lang ang makulong dito habang buhay.

I annoyingly stomped my foot before I grabbed my phone and opened the flashlight. Inilawan ko ang paligid and when I saw a switch, I turned it on so I perfectly saw that I am in the maintenance room.

The reception is bad kaya umikot-ikot pa ako sa buong kwarto para lang makapag-hanap ng magandang signal. Naka-hinga ako ng maluwag nang makita kong na-send ang text ko kay Hugo at sigurado akong darating na sya maya-maya lang.

When I put my phone in my bag, I heard the door opened.

"Wow, ang bilis mo--"

I stopped in what I am saying when I saw Joyce and four other women wearing civillian clothes went inside. My heart jumped in my chest when I saw one of them closed the door and locked it.

Bahagya akong napa-atras because of their scary smirks. I think, I knew what is happening right now kaya lalong nagwala ang puso ko sa takot but I know this will end soon as Hugo is sure on his way to save me.

"Nasan ang tapang mo ngayon, Daniella? Akala mo ba ikaw lang ang nakaka-kontrol sa mga tao?" Naka-ngising tanong ni Joyce at kahit natatakot ako ay nginisian ko sya pabalik.

"You call that controlling already? Umuwi ka muna at mag-practice pa or better yet, let me teach you how. Ayyy, okaya wag na. I bet even you're whole family's salary can't cover for my talent fee." Nanunukso kong sabi kaya mabilis nawala ang ngisi nya at napalitan ng pagka-kunot ng noo.
