(Hey! Welcome to an intermission while I'm stuck on the next real chapter.
This intermission takes a small focus on what Shapeshifter was doing before coming to Mafia Town.)
Pacing across the forest floor, Shapeshifter followed Snatcher closely, chuckling at his incessant chuffing and grumbling about his minions or the distraction your group had brought him. They knew better, he wasn't nearly as bothered as he was making things out to be. Subcon's boss was always incredibly dramatic.
Ah. They still remember when he and the other had newly formed. He was much, much angrier then. All the rage of everything that had happened. Their ear twitched idly, hearing the crackling of the burning forest as they passed. Clear as day.
"Hurry up," Snatcher's voice broke them from their memories, causing their strides to pick up considerably.
"Hm, still the same demanding person you've always been," Shapeshifter mused, "We're not getting their any faster or slower either way, you know."
The large shadow snapped slightly, growling at the being, "Don't push your luck."
Shapeshifter's ears twitched idly, eyes squinting down in amusement as they traveled, ignoring the sharp claws that were awfully close to themselves.
"Yes, yes," They hummed, "I know better than to disrespect you too much in your own forest."
"Hmph."
A ruffle of their ears proved to the creature that no real hard feelings were being held. A relief, slightly. After this long, they weren't quite sure if they were still in good standing with the Subcon boss.
"I see that Vanessa has not been kind since I've been gone," Shapeshifter held out a paw to the snowflakes that were slowly starting to accumulate as they reached the problem area.
"Ugh, you don't know the half of it," Snatcher rolled his large yellow eyes, scraping a large sheet of ice from the dirt path, "I swear that witch gets crazier by the century..."
"Are you sure nothing can be done about her?" Their claws flexed slightly with a playful chuckle, "I can be of use there, you know."
A push to their side and an amused snort followed, "Believe me, we've tried."
"Well always best to double check you know," Shapeshifter's eyes feigned a grin, "As a friend, I should always look out for options."
Snatcher simply glared, annoyance clear.
"You never did give up on pretending we were friends, did you?"
"Whoever said I was pretending?"
"We're. Not. Friends."
The slow, drawn out sentence merely made the being roll their eyes, picking up their pace to be ahead of the ghost by a few feet. He always was a stubborn one, refusing to admit he cared for anyone or anything. They knew he cared about others. How else would those 'minions' of his get away with so much?
"Ah sure, sure," They hummed, observing the mess they no doubt would be forced to clean up, "Whatever you say dear Snatcher."
