15| Unwanted Conversations
After a couple hours, Seraphina was still looking for Tom, but she couldn't find him anywhere. When it was time for dinner in the Great Hall, she saw the whole group of his followers, and still, he was nowhere to be found.
She sat on the Slytherin table with her friends and they gave her teasing smiles when they saw her, "Here comes the queen. Watch out for what you say," Mulciber said with his typical smirk.
Everyone laughed and Seraphina just rolled her eyes, "How are you doing my fellow serpents?"
Nott placed his arm around her shoulders gently, bringing her closer to him, "We are great, as always. But we miss our girl."
"Yeah, it's nice to have a girl in the group," Avery said while eating his food and Seraphina was happy to see him looking better and less worried.
"What about Davina?" She tilted her head to the side with a knowing smile.
Abraxas kissed her cheek, "You're our favorite, even if you insist on spending time with mudbloods and low-lives."
"And I didn't forget about what you did to me, Vevrain," Lestrange pointed his finger at her.
Seraphina showed her best innocent face, "I have no idea what you're talking about, Gideon."
"Setting me up with a mudblood?" The whole group laughed on his annoyed face, "It's not funny! It was the worst date ever!"
"Now, don't be like that, sweetheart. For your information, Layla is really nice and funny," she said taking the spoon to her mouth while Lestrange rolled his eyes.
"She's not bad at Quidditch either," Nott added taking his arm away from Seraphina, "A little aggressive, though."
Seraphina made a small smile, not having a hard time believing his statement. Layla was, in fact, extremely strong and capable of defeating anyone she wanted. And sometimes she wished she could be more like her in that aspect.
Actually, Seraphina was never one of those weak and innocent witches, she despised them honestly. But no one ever described her as strong or determined, people only said she was stubborn. And she could never understand that. What is the difference between stubbornness and determination?
The oddest fact was that Tom was the person who complimented her the most. He would always insist she was capable of doing anything she wanted and he was always trying to push her limits so she could have better grades and develop stronger spells. And even when sometimes her objective was trying to be as good or even better than him, he would encourage her, not ever telling her to give up. He wanted her to be great, just like himself.
Despite his efforts, her family never really recognized her effort, since she was always standing next to the brightest student on Hogwarts, Tom Riddle. But she couldn't blame him, really. After all, he worked really hard to be the best student. Because of that, even if sometimes he was rude to her, she admired him.
Looking at her almost empty plate, she wondered why almost every topic of conversation she had with other people would lead to Tom. It was like no matter what was happening, she would always be thinking about him at the same time. Did the same thing happen to him? Probably not.
Her thoughts distracted her from the conversation around her, but apparently, she didn't miss anything.
"Come on, man. Seriously, every year you bring a different witch to the Christmas party," Abraxas said shaking his head while looking at Mulciber, "One day your mother will end it for you. She's going to make you marry someone."
