24| à la folie (to insanity)
Some people like to wake up to the sound of the birds singing or the waves crashing on the beach. Tom and Seraphina were not part of that group of people, they were actually the ones who enjoyed waking up in a partially dark room, hearing absolutely nothing.
And when Seraphina woke up in that calm Sunday morning with a huge headache, she felt more peaceful than what was expected from someone with a hungover. She took her her time looking around the dormitory and the first thing she saw was the big window that showed the lake, which was partially illuminated from the morning sun.
So she spent a couple of minutes just enjoying the fantastic view of those magical creatures that she missed so much when she was home. And while she was waiting to see the Giant Squid swimming around the Black Lake, she couldn't help but remember everything that happened the previous night.
Most people feel embarrassed for forgetting what they did when they were wasted, but Seraphina actually wished she could forget everything that happened. Instead, and most unfortunately, she couldn't get rid of her memories. Her thoughts and actions were somehow sinful for most people, but surprisingly she didn't regret much.
Sighing, Seraphina turned around on the bed and frowned when she saw the cold empty space next to her. She should feel bad and humiliated for once again falling for Tom's charms. However, she was actually pretty glad they were in speaking terms again. In fact, they were more than in speaking terms again, since they slept in the same bed, as close as they used to sleep when they were younger.
After all this time, the witch couldn't deny how safe and comfortable she felt in Tom's arms. Yes, he was mean, manipulative, and arrogant, but when she was with him, she felt special and cherished. It was like no matter what happened between them, they would always find their way back to each other.
While she was thinking about her friendship with Tom Riddle, she was finally able to focus on the sounds around her. And that was when she heard the sound of a quill sliding on parchment.
What a lovely way to wake up, she thought, wishing her mornings were always that way.
She raised her gaze to look at the magnificent sight of Tom sitting on the small desk and studying. He had his back turned to her, but she could still feel the attention he gave to what he was doing, and that dedication was one of the things she admired the most about Tom.
"How are you feeling?" He didn't turn around to look at her, making her wonder how did he know she was awake.
"I'm alright," she answered lowly.
Tom finally got up from his chair and walked towards the bed, sitting on it and looking down at Seraphina, "I don't believe you. Do you even remember last night?"
"Unfortunately. I do feel like I a unicorn walked over me, but I could be worse. Why aren't you in bed?"
He shrugged, "Because I was studying."
"So early? You have a problem, Tom. You're undoubtedly sick."
"Do you know what time is it?" She shook her head and he chuckled, "It's ten in the morning. Not even Mulciber is sleeping right now and he's shamefully lazy."
Seraphina widened her eyes and tried to get up from bed in a sudden action, not missing the strong pain in the back of her head as she did so. Tom rolled his eyes with her stupidity and gently pushed her back by her shoulder so she could lay on the bed again, "Don't be an idiot. If you're feeling sick, then how thick can you be to get up so quickly? Seriously, Seraphina, you keep disappointing me."
