57| Dolohov
Tom looked at the sleeping witch laying with her head on his lap with a frown. After what happened the previous day he couldn't sleep. He did not rest one single hour all night and now that they were on the train he couldn't sleep either. His head was full of thoughts of doubts and new fears. Was he getting too attached to Seraphina Vevrain? He knew she was the most important thing in his life, but how dangerous was that? What if something happened to her? What was he supposed to do?
All that questions made him fearful and angry at himself, for being so weak and pathetic around her. In reality, a part of him wanted to get rid of her, so he wouldn't think about her so much and get distracted so easily. The problem was what the other part of him wanted. He wished to have her by his side all the time, as more than an ally, he wanted her as his true partner, his other half. Unfortunately, that seemed to be his dominant part, for he couldn't see himself ruling a world without Seraphina Dolohov Vevrain.
Without a trace of shame, Tom looked at her light blue cloak on the ground and saw a small envelope slightly leaving its pocket. He knew what it was and he knew Seraphina was hiding it from him. A mistake, a terrible mistake, for if there was something Tom hated was lies, especially from a pretty mouth like Seraphina's. Without regret, his hands reached slowly for the envelope, without waking her up.
When his fingers finally touched the paper and he was able to see who the letter belonged to, there seemed to be a new forming rage on his chest. Leo Greengrass. The boy simply didn't disappear, Tom should have ordered the basilisk to kill him. Even better, he should have done it himself, how wonderful would it be to see life leaving his body forever. A mighty pleasure indeed.
Without making a noise, he opened the envelope slowly to reveal a handwritten letter. Greengrass didn't even have an elegant calligraphy. He was completely useless apparently. And so he started reading the letter with a frown, trying to control his anger in order not to wake her up.
"Dear Seraphina,
This is a goodbye to you and to my old me. For months and months, since the day George introduced us, I've been more confused than I've ever been in my whole life. Before I met you, I used to live a simple life, I was happy. But then everything changed when we started talking, for countless reasons. You bewitched me and made me see the world in a different manner. I saw you as someone divine and superior, I thought you were different from everyone else, you were special. Because of that, I was always wondering if there was something wrong with me that didn't allow you to love me the way I love you.
I understand you must be in pain right now, for you're not used to hearing people criticizing you, but I'm doing this for your own good.
And why? The other day after Dippet announced that very unfortunate accident with Myrtle, you didn't seem to care. Your eyes were sparkling while you looked at Riddle, almost as if nothing happened. You weren't upset, you weren't bothered, you didn't even care someone innocent died. That made me think and I finally reached the conclusion there was nothing wrong with me. You are the rotten one, you are the one who made me think I was a bad person simply because I was different from you. Honestly, I truly believe there is something wrong with you, probably because of the wrong education you had while growing up or the company you keep. However, you can still change for the better. It's up to you and I'm writing this mainly to tell you that you're on the wrong path. You are so intelligent and ambitious, have you ever stopped to think about the amazing things you could do if you wanted to be kind? You could be spectacular in the future. Your problem is that you believe, or Riddle made you believe, that in order to be great you have to destroy and be evil. That is just not true and deep down you know it.
Please try to change and try to be a better person, I believe in you. I can help you if you want, you only have to allow me.
If you choose to continue doing whatever you're doing, then consider our friendship over. If you admit you must change, then we'll start over, if you want. I'm giving you all summer to think.
Yours truly,
Leo."
