40| she's no angel

"She's late, George," Seraphina complained as she moved her knight on the board chess, "We're supposed to be friends again, because of Leo and if she doesn't want to do that for her friend, then I'm not sure if I should be sacrificing my precious time."

George glanced at the board with curious eyes, "Sacrificing your time? Aren't you having fun with me while we wait for Layla this fine morning?" He pretended to be offended.

"Of course I am, love, I always enjoy my time around you," she said with a sweet smile, "But I need to study and I honestly should be doing it right now," Seraphina admitted, watching George move his knight as well.

"Why do you study so hard?"

She shrugged, glancing at the door in the Great Hall, "I want to be the best."

"But Riddle is on your way, isn't he?" George questioned with a mocking grin and Seraphina raised her middle finger at him, "What's the deal between you two, anyway?"

Seraphina frowned, "What do you mean? We're very good friends."

"I saw you two talking last night during supper and you seemed quite close, more than usual," he commented, "Check," he introduced his winning.

"That's unfair, you distracted me!" She said, looking at the board and realizing there was nothing she could do, "And we're as close as we were before. Nothing changed."

"But do you like him? You can tell me, you know I won't tell anyone, not even Leo," he promised, moving his piece and completing the game, "Mate."

The game was finally finished and Seraphina recognized how brilliant George was when it came to playing chess, "You're great at chess. Have you ever considered starting a career?"

George Weasley rolled his eyes, "Don't think for a second you'll avoid my question," he said pointing his finger at her.

Seraphina thought about his question and realized she didn't know the answer herself. Twisting a ring on her finger, she shrugged one shoulder, "Tom is the closest person I have to me and he's the one who understands me the most, you know? Without him, I don't know what I would do. He can't know this, though."

"I think you love him," he said.

She froze and stared at him with wide eyes, "No, I don't. Why would you say that?"

Just when George was about to answer, they were interrupted by none other than Layla Alden. She sat beside George and glared at Seraphina, "Weasley, Vevrain."

"You're late," Seraphina pointed out, narrowing her eyes.

"It's our free period as if you have something else to do," she rolled her eyes, "Anyways, why are we doing this when Leo is not even here?"

"I know you would ask that," George closed the chessboard and glanced at the two girls, "Because I knew the first time you two met you would be fighting and Leo surely doesn't want to witness that."

"Great," Layla made a sarcastic smile, "What are we supposed to be doing?"

"You're going ask questions to each other and you have to be honest when you answer. I'll be the judge and I know when you're lying."

"I bet you do," Seraphina raised her eyebrows, placing her elbows on the table.

"She's a snake, Weasley. You can never trust her words, she's a liar by nature."

Seraphina made an exasperated sigh, "Yes, Layla, because I was the one who lied for months and created a fake friendship."

George widened his eyes with the exchange, "This is not what we want, ladies! Remember why we are here. This is not going to work like this, so I'll start," he said, rubbing his hands together, "What did you do on New Year's Eve?"
