Aila had to start wearing glasses.

She felt like her world would come to an end. Surprisingly, the school was not interested. Guess her generation was more open to soulmates, glasses and non-soulmate love. A lot of people actually thought she looked cute with them. It was the older generation that looked at her weird.

Her junior year of high school came to an end in June 2011. She was almost done with high school with college around the corner. She was illegal, the visa in which she came to the USA was fake and she had stayed after it expired. But to be honest she really didn't care, even thou her GPA was a 4.23 going into her senior year.

June 2011 was also the month that broke Aila's heart.

Aila knew her mother gotten t a mammogram done. It was the middle of June and her mom had mention nothing.

That day, Aila's friend, Audrey, had convinced her to go out on a date, but right before they were going to leave, Aila turned to her mother.

"Mami, que le dijieron de los resultados?" What where the results? She needed to know.

Her mom avoided the question and said don't worry instead. Aila was a stubborn person and decided she wasn't going to take no for an answer, not with such an important matter.

"Mom what are results?" They were standing in the kitchen.

"I have cancer" was Maria's direct answer. Is she was going to say something it had to be all the truth.

This is Aila's first heart break.

She felt something shattered in her chest and she swore she heard glass break. This pain burned down her walls, everything was gone and her world was upside down. Everything was destroyed. She felt a pool of tears gather up. This couldn't be true! Not her mother! Why her!?! There was a door that lead to the deck and she rushed to get outside.

She looked up to the night sky. It was so beautiful. Looking at the sky she let her tears fall, her heart fell the pain of heartbreak, and her sobs were loud into the sky.

Her friend came looking for Aila and when she saw how Aila looked, she got really worried. Never had Audrey seen her cried with so much emotion. Her tears were streaming down her face and she thought she saw Aila shaking.

"What's wrong!?"

No answer

"Aila what's wrong?"

Aila tried to speak but when she thought my mom has breast cancer, her throat closed up with a sob and she put her hand over her mouth. Audrey tried her best to understand what she said but her crying was getting out of control.

"My mom... has... cancer." Saying it again was worse, it felt like a declaration, like a real statement and she didn't want it to be true.

Audrey's face looked shocked. At that moment Maria came out and took Aila by the hand and set her down in the kitchen table. Aila thought it was so funny her mother sat her down to give her strength, to tell her that everything was going to be fine. She was the one supposed to give her mother encouraging words, to support her, to give her a shoulder to cry on. Aila felt so weak and angry, at herself and at the God she believed in.

That night Aila cried the whole night, something she hadn't done in 7 years.
