Second Chance - Chapter 33

The sky was a pitch black though it was only six in the evening, dark clouds swirl the sky as the sun has long gone down beyond the horizon. The moon though has been hidden by the dark clouds with no evidence of moonlight being able to penetrate through. The thunder was roaring rumbustiously as the rain fell in torrents, with the violent and unrelenting gust of chilling wind sweeping up the streets. Leaves were flying everywhere because of the robust wind. The sound of the pouring rain can be heard rattling along the rooftops of the houses in both the human and mythical villages. The coalition of the pouring rain and the violent gust of wind have cause the chandelier lights in the houses to shake violently, threatening the lights to struggle to stay on against the darkness of the stormy night.  It was always foretold that deadly creatures like to roam around in such a weather to target their prey.

The rustling of bushes could be heard, as the women and children hid safely in their homes protecting them from the unkind weather outside. The husbands are not back from their work. Each time the thunder boomed, the children would jumped and cringed at the sound of it as they cowered under the blanket with their mums hugging and comforting them. Suddenly with an earthshaking roar of the thunder, the power went out; the entire house was now in darkness.  The women and children were so consumed in their fear that they did not hear the opening of the house door. As the dark shadow lurked into the room, it is  now too late they saw a hideous creature with a mouth full of razor sharp teeth, their skin was coated with some muddy green slime, their eyes was a bloody crimson red and they had long sharp claws. The figure approached the cowering women and children and attacked them. The women fought with all their might by throwing any random items at the creature, trying to distract it so that their children could run and escape from the oncoming threat. The creature was too vehement for the women to fight, not even the female vampires or werewolves could save themselves from it.

Blood was shed and splattered all over the villages of the vampires’ werewolves and humans alike. When the men returned, they were greeted by the most sorrowful sight of their wives’ brutally slaughtered bodies. The intestines were dangling out from the big hole in their stomach as big potions of their flesh were ripped and chewed out. Fresh blood was oozing out in large quantities flooding the entire floor. The children who managed to escape have either run over to Dylan’s castle or the various police stations or to hide in the church.

I was pacing back and forth aimlessly in the hall of the castle trying to think of what to do to pass my time while Dylan was busy handling his affairs as a king in his study, when I heard a meretricious knock on the door with ear splitting screams made by children. I quickly opened the door and was greeted with many children drenched in the unforgiving rain outside from head to toe. Before I could speak, they gushed into the hall and asked me to close the door fast. I noticed the similarity in all of them, all their eyes were swollen and their eye lids were welling up with tears and they had bruises on them. I asked them what happened to them and where are their parents. All of them were panicking and yelling their answers at the same time. I decided there and then that I could wait for their answers and it is wiser to get them all to calm down first. I called Gracey, Sonia and Maryanne to come quickly to bring these children to the bathroom to get them cleaned up and changed from their soaking wet clothing before they all catch a chill. I got Celine and Amber to prepare some foods and hot drinks for them. I did notice that some of the children were vampires and some were werewolves. After the children had put on the fresh clothing’s and taken something to fill their stomach and keep them warm, I made them sit comfortably down on the cozy sofa surrounding the fireplace , and informed me one by one on their bizarre behaviour. After hearing everything they said, I was stunned beyond words as too what grievous predicament these young ones had to encounter given their age, it was inhumane for anyone to do that to them. I immediately sent a mind link to Dylan asking for his audience and attention. He came down to the hall together with Caleb and Keith to meet me and the kids. There were a total of forty of them. Not long later, the reverberating sound of the phone was heard and Gracey answered it. It was Derek and he sounded urgent. Dylan quickly answered the call and Derek reported a savage, merciless and barbarous massacre of his village and the vampire village. After that phone call with Derek ended the vampire council and the police chief called, all informing about similar incidents taking place in their villages. Apparently there are many of these creatures that attacked all the villages at the same time, it wasn’t just a slaughter, it was a feeding frenzy. The creatures ripped out the flesh of these feeble women and feed on them.

Dylan was puzzled, what kind of creatures feed on flesh of living prey. It couldn’t be wild animals, as there were no wild animals out there except the werewolves but they don’t kill to eat, they purchase their food from the markets. Under my father’s rule, no mythical creature is allowed to kill for food, this may be the work of rogue werewolves but not likely. The children have described the creature to be in a form of a man, with green slime, red bloodshot eyes, long razor sharp teeth. I have not come across such a mythical creature myself or less heard of it.

Dylan was infuriated at the brutality of it and the deaths of these innocent women. Dylan decided to call and inform the fathers of those children who were in his castle that he will ask them to remain and stay here until this mystery is solved and the creatures are destroyed for their own safety especially when their fathers are at work.

Ciara sighed at the audacity of the creatures to wrack such havoc on all races when Dylan has passed down the law for both the human and mythical races to live in peace and harmony with one another.

Dylan is going to be occupied and as busy as a bee, with the sudden appearance of these mysterious creatures , and Ciara is aware that she needs to find things to do around the house and Dylan has ask her not to go out temporarily until the mystery is solved.

Dylan returned to his study room and started pondering over the information given by everyone and the events. Realization suddenly hit him hard, when he recalled that the police chief did informed him that their patrol cars did noticed that the tombs in several grave yards have been dug out the previous night, but that is another mystery for the police to solve which the chief can’t put his finger as to how this incident will be related to the sudden appearance of mysterious creatures lurking around to massacre and feed on people.

Keith, I need you to send out a few knights to patrol the streets from five in the evening onwards until day light. You may put the knights on a roster. I need to formulate a plan soon to put an end to this killing before things get out of hand, until then , I want you to handle the investigation of this case. Caleb, please help me call Derek to inform him that I would require his assistance to send his pack out to patrol the streets too.

After my meeting with Caleb and Keith ended, it was well past one in the morning. I materialized into my room and saw my lovely Ciara sitting on the bed patiently waiting for my return. Why didn’t you turn in first my darling? Honey, I want to wait for you, I know that you are going to be extremely busy from now on but I missed the feeling of being cradled in your arms and I can’t sleep without you by my side. Oh my darling, you sweet little pie, come here. Dylan enveloped Ciara into his arms and scooped her up and laid her down onto bed as they drifted off to slumber together.
