LA/Malibu, California
[Emmileigh]
I'd been in Malibu a few days now, staying at Karsyn's new place as we slowly but surely got the place decorated. Karsyn even had me decorate my room, even though I still didn't have my visa yet.
Today we were working on the business itself. It all confuses me really. I've never had my own business before, or worked for someone who had their own business either.
"So, we need office equipment right?"
"Yes, to fuck Nick on."
"Um.. Karsyn." I looked at her as she laughed.
"I'm playing.."
I looked up at her as she shook her head and mouthed not, making me roll my eyes. "So, computers, printers, uh.. maybe those built in printer copier machines. Would we need a fax machine?" I looked up at Karsyn.
"Maybe I should hire someone just to set this shit up. I don't have a clue, I really don't."
I sighed softly. "Maybe we need to get advice somewhere. You know, business advice."
"I was thinking that too."
I nodded and jotted that down on the notepad I was holding. "We need to make sure we go about this all the right way. Have you decided what the magazine will be about yet?"
Karsyn shrugged again. I put the lid back on my pen.
Guess we needed to start on that first.

Emmileigh sat around the house, coming up with ideas for the magazine for the better part of the afternoon until we finally gave up and decided to go to Office Depot to get some office stuff. Then I realized Office Depot was Tony's sponsor, and we went to another store instead.
We got two computers, a printer, scanner, fax machine and some other things and some office furniture to set up in what should have been the dining room.
But we still had no idea what the hell the magazine was going to be about. We threw out ideas from starting a new teenybopper magazine, to doing a celebrity gossip magazine, to just starting a blog or something. Luckily, I knew all about web design from my year-long stint as a computer major in college. Then I knew all about media law, graphic design, and journalism from my stint as a journalism and art major before graduating with a General Studies degree.
I was called a professional student for a long time.
"Karsyn! I'm back!" I heard Nick call out as I finished hanging a framed poster on the wall in the old dining room, now office. I looked over, seeing Nick walk in and looked around. "Fuck, did ya'll do all this today?" he asked, walking in and looking around at the two desk, computers, and the whole set up.
Then he looked to see the NKOTBSB framed poster on the wall. "Seriously?" he asked.
"Emmileigh just left to go back to Donnie's, but yep, we did all this," I said, holding my arms out. "We ordered Emmileigh a camera to use to take pictures. She's taken courses in photography but doesn't have a professional camera."
"Any idea on what it's going to be about yet?" Nick asked, setting down at the computer that was going to be mine. "This computer is kick ass. I can play games on here," he said as he sat down in the chair.
"Um, no you're not, unless you're going to work on the magazine," I said as he looked at me. "And no, no idea yet."
"Just start out with a blog first, then if it takes off, start a full blown magazine," Nick said as he stood up from the desk.
"We need a name."
"Nick Carter is sexy and he knows it," Nick whispered as I glared at him. "Duh."
"I don't want to be like Perez Hilton or anything," I said as he walked over to Emmileigh's desk, seeing a photo of her and Donnie up in a frame.
"Hey, you don't have a picture of us."
"You live right next door," I said as he cracked up laughing at Emmileigh's new 'Blue Bloods' wallpaper on her desktop. "She's gone to meet Donnie's kids."
"Interesting."
"Donnie's talking about them going to Boston to meet his family."
"Getting serious."
"You've met mine."
"And loved them."
"Don't you want to introduce me to anybody?" I asked as he looked over at me.
"Yeah, I talked to Kevin today," Nick said, leaning back in Emmileigh's chair. "He wants to go out and eat this weekend or something."
"Just Kevin?" I asked as he nodded. "Nobody else?"
"Well, you know the other guys," he said as I nodded. I crossed my arms over my chest and looked around the room before looking back at Nick. "That's all there is."
"I don't think Kevin or Brian conceived or gave birth to you." I said as he cracked up, laughing. The image in my head after saying it was a fucked up one.
"Fine, that's all there is to meet right now," he said as stood up from Emmileigh's chair and walked over to me. "When I'm on good terms with them again, you can meet them. Right now, I don't really want anything to do with any of them. The boys are my family. You haven't met Kevin, so I want to introduce you to him."
"Okay," I sighed, walking over to turn the light out in the office.
Somehow I wasn't sure I was getting the whole story where Nick's family was concerned.
