Chapter 30

(following anime episodes 103, 111 and 114)

          It all happened around a week ago when Boomer's call reached out to Yusei, asking him to bring Jack to Nazca Lines, because he had something very important to show him. It was Jack's time to shine, since he achieved a new power, but until it happened, no one knew what awaits them. In order to have things under control, Yusei accompanied Jack to Bommer's village, taking Hanako with him, so they can separate Jack and Crow for a while. Lately, they have been constantly fighting over Jack's expenses, even though Crow was managing to cover them financially regardless, Yusei and Hanako had to do something about it. Once in the village, when the night came, Bommer was preparing the stage for the Riding Duel, asking Yusei for help, explaining to him how he should take a torch with him and light up the path for the duel that Bommer himself has set up. The very first second Yusei agreed to help, Hanako excitedly jumped right before his eyes, wanting to help him too, "I know!" She exclaimed happily, waving with her hands, as she reached for the torch in Yusei's hand and took it away from him, "You drive, I'll light the way up!" She smiled brightly, running to his D-Wheel, as she hopped on and grabbed herself with one hand around the back of Yusei's runner, while holding the torch in the other.

Yusei watched her in awe, completely stunned by the precious smile on her face, because she was smiling so rarely these months, he couldn't remember when was the last time he saw her chirpily and bubbly personality. In fact, he almost forgot how it feels like to see that almost lost and forgotten side of her, but the very first moment she jumped onto his runner, he got worried about her falling off of it, so he snapped out of his daydream, "Oy, Hanako!" Yusei tried to reach her with his hand, "What are you doing?" He questioned with dose of concern in his voice, but Hanako just looked at him and smiled even brighter, beckoning him to approach the runner and start the ride.

          "It's just like the old days", she explained, while Yusei accepted her gesture and started moving closer to her, "Do you remember when you used to drive around with me on the runner?" She asked with her smile never fading away from her cheerful face contours.

"But we were kids back then", Yusei protested, not liking the idea of driving through the duelling path with her standing unsafely on the back of his runner, where he wasn't able to see her.

          "Yusei", she sighed, "It was just three years ago, it doesn't make much difference!" She added, tapping Yusei's shoulder and encouraging him to start the engine, so they can light up the torches, "Now, come on!"

"I'm just worried about you..."

          "And you were not worried three years ago?!" She raised her left eyebrow at him, so he knew there was no other way to stop this, but to listen to her and do exactly what she wanted.

"You're right", Yusei muttered weakly through a sigh, agreeing with her request even though he didn't want to, but somehow, after remembering Crow's words about being too strict with Hanako lately and trying to protect her by watching her every step, he realised it was the right time to put those fears aside and for once enjoy some time alone with her just like she wanted; just like the old days. After sitting on his runner and started his engine, Yusei turned over his shoulder to check on Hanako once more before they set away

          "Let's GO, Yusei!" She shouted excitedly when their eyes met, before she raised the torch up into the sky like a sword pointed up to the sky by a swordsman ready to protect his country, ready to battle against the mightiest enemy if needed.

"Yeah", Yusei murmured with a nod, moving his head back to the front, focusing onto the path, "Hold on tight!" He shouted, but not as half as excited and thrilled as Hanako was, as the small ray of concern was still flickering inside of his soul.
