There were two big buses in the parking area. Aia was about to step up to one when a student told her that there were no available seat in their bus so she went off to the next one. It was not yet fully occupied but they told her the environmental club was coming too so the seats were reserved to them.
“Bakit lagi kang nakabalot?” someone asked from the back seat.
Aia turned her back and answered, “I’m photosensitive.”
“Photosensitive? What’s that?”
“Wait, I’ll Google it.” Sabi ng isa. “Oh, it’s sun allergy.”
Aia nodded. “Tama.”
“Allergy ka sa sikat ng araw? Are you a vampire or something?”
The students roared in laughter.
At my expense! Aia decided to ignore them. It was just a waste of time and sanity talking to them. They would never take her seriously.
Aia was standing on the centre aisle when their Immersion Professor showed up.
“You must be the new student, Aia Trinidad right?” he asked her.
Aia nodded.
“It’s good you’ve finally showed up. Malapit ng matapos ang semester at ngayon ka lang pumasok.”
Exaggerated naman ito masyado wala pa ngang preliminary exams.
“Oh, you don’t have a seat?” Napansin nitong nakatayo lang siya doon.
Aia nodded again.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. Sumama ang isang club eh kaya marami tayo ngayon. Nilingon nito ang mga lalaki. “Boys, please give Miss Trinidad a seat.”
No one answered. It meant no one would give up his seat for her. Did she really have to stand there while the bus is running? What if something happened to her? She was not yet fully recovered and her incision seemed a little reddish she felt pain every time she move. What now?
“You wait here, I’ll find you a seat. I’ll ask Samantha.”
Oh no! Not that girl. Of all people? Aia decided to phone Lt. Castellejos. He let her use his other phone para daw may kumonikasyon sila sa lahat ng oras.
“What’s the problem?” he asked promptly.
“There’s no available seat, Lieutenant. Maybe I’ll just go home. I don’t want to stand while on travel something bad might happen to me.”
There was a long silence then he spoke, “No, stay there. I’ll find a way.”
“Thank you,” she hanged up.
A moment later their Prof was back. “I’m sorry Miss Trinidad but wala na talagang space kahit sa kanila ni Samantha,” he said, trying for an apologetic tone, but quietly couldn’’t manage it. Aia knew it. Nasa black list siya nito.
“It’s okay, Sir.”
“It’s okay for you to stand?”
“No! I mean –
Aia stopped in mid sentence when she saw Lt. Alcatraz and Lt. La Madrid in their camouflage uniform making their way to their bus. She groaned inwardly. What are they up to?
The two really looked good in uniform. Men in uniform were so handsome...on so many levels. And that was just looks. Their substance was even more attractive.
