035- THE CURSED MONSTER'S EYES
PENELOPE
We spent the entire day scouting the ancient lands of Crete, hoping to find some answers or clues regarding the sudden outbreak of mythical monsters all-over the place. Like something was really causing them to spawn, kasi sa sobrang dami na naming napatay ng Epsilon Team ay hindi talaga maubos-ubos yung mga ito.
To our surprise, we came across a small Cretan village and asked them if they had encountered some unusual events happening all over the place. We knew that they wouldn't be able to differentiate the mythical monsters from the wild animals that roam here since their sights were being affected by the mist.
"More villagers kept disappearing every night and we had no idea where they went. Their bodies were never found too so we couldn't really say that they're already... dead.", one of the village elders answered our questions. Iniwan din namin yung babae sa village since we can't take her with us. It was a good thing that she understood and the villagers were more than welcome to have her for the mean time.
"Has any of you ever explored the ruins of the ancient labyrinth?", I asked the elder pero kaagad na nanlaki ang mata niya at mabilisang umiling.
"That place is cursed! About a few weeks ago, one of our warriors saw a goddess. She appeared before the ruins and placed a monster inside the labyrinth. Eversince then, all of our warriors who attempted to journey the ancient labyrinth never returned. That is the reason why we started to forbid the villagers the step foot into that place for now.", nagkatinginan kami ni Aeodysus sa sinabi ng matanda. A goddess. Could it be the goddess Athena? Was she the one who purposely placed the gorgon Medusa inside the Labyrinth of Crete to guard the artifact? Ano naman kaya ang artifact na yun?
"Uhm, e-excuse me.", I was startled when I felt something tug on my shirt. When I turned to see what it was, bumungad sakin ang isang batang babae. But what intrigued me the most is her set of amber colored eyes.
"Y-You---", there's something about this child. Her bloodline.
"Big sister, why are there monsters all-over the place and how come nobody believes that I can see them?", curiosity was evident from her eyes as she asked me that, like it was a normal question for her. Nagpakurap-kurap muna ako sa tinanong niya as I felt Aeo tap my back and gave me a meaningful look as if urging me to talk with the kid at siya na raw muna ang makikipag-usap dun sa village elder.
Inakay ko palayo yung batang babae dun hanggang sa kami nalang dalawa. This way, no one will hear our conversation. I smiled at her.
"Hello little one. I'm Penelope. You can call me as your big sister. Anyways, what's your name? How old are you?", I asked her in a kindly manner. Ngumiti naman siya sakin pabalik. The moment she asked me earlier about her, being able to see monsters, I immediately confirmed that this little kid was one of us. Hindi lang ako pamilyar sa aura niya---I mean, kung sino yung parental deity niya.
"I'm Valyria. I'm five years old, big sister.", she greeted. Hinaplos ko naman yung umaalon niyang buhok.
"Y-You can see the monsters?", I asked her. She immediately nodded pero parang hindi manlang siya natakot. She was just smiling.
