007- THE ROMAN MAZE
"Don't the Graeae live at the Island of Cisthene?", biglang tanong ni Sev nang makapasok na kami sa ruins ng Pompeii.
"Yes. But that doesn't mean they can't travel to other places secretly.", sagot naman ni Kai sa kanya.
Naglalakad kami ngayon sa ruins ng city. The disastrous traces from the lahar of Mount Vesuvius centuries ago were very visible from the condition of the whole place.
"Pompeii is converted as a tourist attraction here in Naples right? How come parang tayo lang naman ang tao sa bahaging ito ng Pompeii?", I suspiciously asked as I roamed my eyes around the place. The place was... silent. And I don't see any tourists roaming this area.
"A series of incidents and reports that started three weeks ago up until yesterday stated that a couple of mortals reported paranormal activities in this part of the ruins. Most of the tourists avoid this entrance in fear of the incidents.", natigilan ako sa sinabi ni Kai as I felt my freaking spine chill.
I remember my childhood days. I started seeing ghosts when I was twelve. Some of them were friendly but the others---well.
"Like what?", parang wala lang na tanong ni Sev na hanggang ngayon ay nakatingin lang sa paligid.
"They see people wearing clothes from the Ancient Roman period. Most of them had scorched skin and faces according to the complainants. Several of the reports even claimed that those were the ghosts of the people who lived and were buried along the ancient city of Pompeii during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.", Kai explained further. Sev just nodded in response habang ako naman dito ay pasimple nang nanginginig sa sinasabi nila but still doing my best to control my fear.
"T-That's suspicious. I can feel that the presence of the mist in these parts are strong. How come the mortals can see Roman ghosts wandering around these areas?", tanong ko habang nililibot namin ang paningin sa paligid.
It's true. I can feel the mist. Maybe it's because of the connection between me and my mother.
"I forgot to add. The mist conceals the creatures of the unknown, not unless they wanted to be seen by the mortals themselves. According to Roman Mythology, spirits of their dead ancestors were classified into two. The Lares are known to be the good spirits of their Roman ancestors who passed away and are at peace. The second are the Lemures; unpeaceful souls of the dead that died of a violent or premature death or tragedy. These spirits are usually the ones who wander among the living, haunting people until they go mad.", kwento ni Sev. Mas lalo tuloy na nagsitindigan ang mga balahibo ko.
"Based on their descriptions, I'm sure that you guys already have a clue on what type of spirits are haunting this area of Pompeii.", Sev sounded like he was scaring us. Sinamaan ko agad siya ng tingin while Kai just hissed beside me.
"Let's divide in finding the Graeae. It'll be much easier. Just give a signal if you found something.", Kai suddenly declared on my left side. Rinig ko naman ang pag sang-ayon ni Sev sa kanan ko.
"You're right. I'll go this way, dun ka sa kabila. And Kria, you continue this path.", Sev ordered as they started walking to the opposite paths at inutusan akong dumiretso lang sa path na nilalakaran namin kanina. Halos mapamura ako.
"S-Sev. You just pointed out earlier that most of the Roman ghosts here are Lemures---well obviously since they were all affected during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius centuries ago but my concern is, I'm scared.", I sounded so pathetic as I pleaded infront of Sev na aalis na sana.
