063- CREST OF THE OMEGA

AHLKRIA

I slowly opened my eyes, only to be greeted by the wide smiles on Mageia and Kratos' faces as I slowly blinked---still a bit drowsy while letting out a yawn just before getting-off of my bed.

The pale autumnal rays of the rising sun automatically illuminated against the misty, leaded glass windows of my bedroom as I slowly glided towards it, dragging my feet on the floor like a lazy kid that just got interrupted from a good night's sleep for the sake of school.

"Can you guys feel that? It's the peculiar sound of the wind, knocking against the window pane.", kausap ko kina Mageia at Kratos na para bang sasagot sila pabalik sa'kin.

I gently rubbed my eyes before reaching for my bedroom window as I smoothly pulled them open.

"By the gods, that's cold.", I commented as I abruptly closed them back again. From the brief moment that I felt the cold touch of the breeze accompanied with the tiny droplets that formed along-with the moist of my bedroom's window, bigla nalang akong napatulala.

"What day... is it today again?", I murmured while turning to glance upon the desk calender sitting on the side table near my bed. Mapakla akong napangiti.

"I see. It's September 22.", the Autumn Equinox. The beginning of the third season in the cycle. The fall season.

Autumn is almost every person's ideal and favorite time of the year. Well, who wouldn't be enamoured with its bewildering beauty? Don't you just love how the leaves turn into the fiery shades of scarlet and orange as their ambrosial scents decorate the crisp autumn winds blowing against your hair?

The coldness of autumn. The colors of burning ember rolling across the vast valley beyond the horizon. Dry leaves crunch beneath your feet and clouds appear when you breathe out. Not to mention the sky...

The most gorgeous of skies can be seen in autumn. It's silent after the sun rises in the east; blue, like the ocean as it embraces your senses, greeting you with its inviting facade and making you feel the warmth amidst the coolness of fall.

I stopped my thoughts from manifesting at tsaka mabilis na napamulat ng mga mata bago tumalikod sa bintana.

"Everything just reminds me of him.", mahinang bulong ko sabay lingon sa gawi nina Mageia and Kratos who both whimpered at my feet before gently stroking their heads against my legs as if trying to comfort me. I bitterly smiled at them.

Why do I always fail ever so miserably to hide the sadness that's still lingering within the depths of my soul? Why do I still mourn for him after all these years?

I used to love the autumn season. The fall. I fell inlove with it every single time in the past. Nagbago lang ang lahat... nung mawala siya.

The Autumn Equinox no longer delighted me compared to the way that it always did before. There is still a lingering warmth, yes, but it is now accompanied by a persistent reminder of the impending chill. For autumn's untimely arrival only meant that... winter is also nearing its way.

The freezing, most dreadful season of the year. I started to detest winter. I hated the cold. Not only that it brought the shadows and the sound of silence to my ears, but because my birthday is set on the Winter Solstice of December 22. A grim reminder.

"I wish I could take you two around the campus with me.", I squatted infront of Mageia and Kratos as I stood infront of the House of Hecate's door pagkatapos kong mag-ayos ng sarili for the celebration of the 120th Autumnal Equinox, this time, in honor of the goddess who personifies Fall; Carpo, one of the three Horae; the goddesses of the seasons.
