Kabanata 33 | Mira

I was pacing back and forth.

I let out a long sigh of despair.

Of all people na pwedeng tumulong sa ‘kin!

He looked at me in the eye before giving me a small smile. “You need a ride?”

I pursed my lips. “I need a ride, but not with you.”

Bahagyang umawang ang bibig niya. “Why not? Celestine... you never changed. You still prefer to ride with Samuel, I guess?” he asked, looking so amused.

Hindi ako sumagot. Kasi ano bang isasagot ko? Dapat ba akong um-oo dahil totoo ang sinasabi niya? So I just remained silent. Silence is good. Silence is better. Silence is best.

“Samuel doesn't have a car, tho. You can't ride with him.”

I rolled my eyes in exasperation. After not seeing each other for almost two years, heto kami at pag-uusapan si Samuel?

“Stop talking about him.” I eyed his car. “You can go now. Thank you sa pagtulong.”

He cocked his head to one side, still looking at me with those annoying expressions. “Seryoso ako. I could give you a ride. I'll have someone to ask to pick up your car ang fix it.”

“Wala akong pake kung seryoso ka, but seriously, no thanks. I could also ask someone to pick my car up. Thanks sa offer.” I simply said before turning my back to him.

“Are you still mad at me, Tine?” he asked.

“I learned to accept everything that happened in the past. May kasalanan ka, I still believe na may kasalanan ka. And that's fine. I won't deny. Hindi kita sinisisi sa nangyari, Victor. Sana hindi iyon ang iniisip mo.”

He just silently listened to me.

“And to be honest, a part of me was actually thanking you for what you have done. God... I sound ridiculous but that's what I'm really feeling. I wanted to thank you for being so brutally honest. I needed that. Because if it's not all because of you... I paused. I needed to breathe.

“I never blamed you for everything, Victor. It's just that... Things are now different from before. I need friends... Not someone who'd throw himself to me.

He stared at me for God knows how long before he finally managed himself to smile. “I'm fine now.”

“You finally has a girl?” I asked.

“Nope. I'm still looking for someone. Well, if you could recommend someone then that would be great.”

“What's your ideal type?”

Tumaas ang kilay niya. “She's hard to find. She's... rare.”

“Don't really care. So ano nga?” taas kilay ko ring tanong.
