I let out a sigh of contentment. I sat in Lucky Cat Café and I was eating a donut. I loved (favourite flavour) donuts they were the best. It always took my mind off the things that were happening at home.
I watched as a boy came down from upstairs. He was Hiro, the restaurant owner — Aunt Cass' nephew. I always saw him around since I was in Lucky Cat Café the whole time.
He was out of my league. According to my parents; everyone was. I knew no one would want to be close to me at all. Why would they want to me? I've amounted nothing for the past 14 years of my life.
He made eye contact with me as he walked to Aunt Cass. I looked down immediately. After the sour thoughts, I didn't want to talk to anyone. I just wanted to be in my own bubble.
I heard his voice in the background talking to Aunt Cass, but I couldn't make out what he was saying to her. Soon, footsteps approached me and I mentally prepared myself for a conversation.
"Hey." Hiro greeted. I looked up. It was odd to see him in person.
"Hi." I greeted and looked away from him. I wanted him to go away. He'd find out that I'm not worth wasting time on.
"Aunt Cass said that you've been here a lot and she said you seem lonely. So, do you want to be friends?"
I glanced into his sincere brown eyes. I didn't want to disappoint him. "I don't know." I whispered, loud enough for him to hear.
Hiro paused for a bit before speaking again. "I'm Hiro. I hope that we do become friends." He said and smiled. He held out his hand to me.
I hesitantly shook his hand. "I'm (Y/N)." I said and forced a smile.
He sat down next to me and leaned against the table. "So, Are you new to San Fransokyo ?" He asked.
He seemed comfortable around me, I wasn't used to that, but it was relaxing. "No, I've been here all my life." I said and turned to face him.
"Really? I haven't seen you around." He said as if processing a deep thought. He probably thought I was weird.
"Yeah, I never left the house often when I was younger. Now I just want to get out." I mumbled and pulled my sleeves down. Hiro glanced at it for a second before looking back at me.
"Oh, do you want some gummy bears? I have a vending machine in my garage." He said and smiled.
I stared at him. It could a trap and then he'd kill me as soon as I got to the garage. I wanted to die anyway so dying while getting gummy bears seemed like a good way to go.
I nodded. "Sure." I said. We stood up and walked to the garage. It wasn't that far away and Hiro walked next to me.
He walked into the garage and there was a vending machine with gummy bears and other sweets. Hiro and I purchased two gummy bears packets and we ate from it.
"Aren't these the best?" He asked and smiled. I nodded.
"Definitely."
"Oh, what do you think of robotics?" Hiro asked.
I let out a nervous laugh. "I love robots and think they'll be good for our future, but I've never made one." I admitted.
Hiro grinned. "I'm sure you can make a robot some day. Oh, I actually have a robot. A year ago, my brother; Tadashi made him. He's going to help save lives. I'll show him to you. Just wait here." Hiro said, jumping in excitement.
