Homecoming

Evie and Donna arrived at my house around 5 o'clock. We all sat in my room, listening to music, and doing our makeup. Evie seemed to like Donna a lot which was very surprising. She didn't like many people.

We had our own little curling train. I curled Donna's hair while she curled Evie's. After hair and makeup, we pulled out our dresses. Donna had a cute, simple black dress that she wore with boots. She was such a western girl.

We had just gotten dressed when my brother walked into my room. We weren't able to talk much this week so I was excited to see him.

"Hi Charlie!" I greeted, getting up to hug him.

"Wow, you look so beautiful," he said when I let go.

"Thank you. Charlie, this is Donna and Evie. Girls, this is my brother Charlie," I introduced. They smiled and waved.

"Nice to meet you ladies. I think your dates are here."

I smiled. I was excited to see Sodapop dressed up. I could just imagine how handsome he would look. I put on my white kitten heels and grabbed my purse.

"You girls look gorgeous," Elizabeth smiled as we entered the living room.

    "Yeah! Really pretty!" Ada added.

"Thank you," I smiled. "Where are the guys?"

"On the porch. I want pictures before you leave," Elizabeth replied.

I nodded and we went outside where Soda, Steve and Johnny were sitting on the porch steps. Sodapop stood up and faced me. He was wearing black dress pants, black dress shoes, a white button up, and a pink bow tie. He was more handsome than I ever could have imagined. His smile was big.

"Y-you look beautiful," he said. I blushed and walked over to him.

"You look handsome too," I said, straightening his tie. "How'd you know I was going to pick pink?"

He laughed, "Have you seen your wardrobe? I took a wild guess."

"Okay, just a few pictures of everyone please!" Elizabeth announced.

We took some pictures before getting in our cars and heading to the dance. People were piling into the school when we arrived. Everyone looked so good. We met Two-Bit, Kathy, Dallas, Ponyboy, and their dates at the door.

"Well don't we all look dashing tonight?" Two-Bit said, putting on a fancy British accent.

Sodapop took a small bow and put on the same accent, "I suppose we do."

"Shut up you two, let's get to dancing," Evie cheered, taking Steve's hand and racing inside.

I smiled at Sodapop and took his hand. We made our way to the gym where the dance was being held. We found an empty table to put our things down before hitting the dance floor.

Two-Bit was right, Soda was the life of the party. He knew every dance and every song. We didn't get halfway through the night before I was exhausted. Thankfully, a slow song came on allowing me to catch a breath.

Sodapop wrapped his arms around me and I did the same to him. I laid my head on his chest and he laid his on my head. I couldn't tell which was better, the music or listening to his soft breathing. He started to sing along to the music and butterflies inflamed my stomach. Standing there, dancing with him, everything was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

One slow song ended and another one began. Two-Bit walked over to us, "Marilyn, may I have this dance?"

I looked up at Sodapop to make sure he was okay with it. He nodded and handed me off to Two-Bit.
