A Moment Too Close

Jisoo woke up earlier than usual that morning.

For some reason, she couldn't sleep any longer. Maybe it was the quiet or maybe it was the strange restlessness that had settled in her heart these days.

After getting ready, she went downstairs for breakfast.

And there he was.

Taehyung.

Already seated, calmly eating as if nothing in the world could disturb him.

Her steps slowed for a second before she gathered herself.

"Good morning," she said softly.

"Morning," he replied without looking up.

She sat across from him, trying to keep the conversation alive.

"You're up early.. I mean, it's still pretty early."

"Yeah."

Just one word.

Again.

She forced a small smile, trying not to let it bother her.

"Well...where is Jungkook? Is he still sleeping?"

The moment she said his name, Taehyung's hand paused mid-air.

"I don't know," he replied, his tone suddenly colder. "If you care that much, you can go check yourself."

She blinked, startled.

"W-why are you getting angry?"

He let out a sigh, as if controlling himself.

"I'm not angry. I'm just saying I don't know."

She stayed quiet for a moment before speaking again.

"I was just asking...he said we would go shopping today."

"Oh."

That was all he said. But something in the air had already changed. Just then, the front door burst open.

"Jisoo unnie!"

Rosé ran in and hugged her tightly.

"Rosie!" she laughed, surprised. "Weren't you guys on vacation?"

"Do you really think she can stay away from you for two weeks?" Jimin teased from behind.

"Hey! Don't tease me!" Rosé pouted.

Taehyung suddenly spoke, his tone slightly amused.

"Looks like Jisoo is Rosé's first love."

"Of course," Rosé said proudly.

Jimin grinned mischievously. "But in that case, Taehyung is lucky because he's Jisoo's first love."

Jisoo's breath caught.

Without realizing it, she looked at Taehyung. She wanted—no, she needed to know what he was thinking.

But his face gave nothing away.

Instead, he said calmly, "But Jisoo knew Rosé before she knew me, right?"

Before anyone could respond...

"Woah! everyone's here already?"

Jungkook's voice cut through the moment as he walked in.

Plans changed quickly after that.

"We're going out today!" Jimin announced.

"Today?" Jisoo hesitated. "But I have meetings—"

"Jisoo unnie, please!" Rosé clasped her hands dramatically.
