The house was quiet when Taehyung returned.
Too quiet. The kind of silence that didn't comfort but pressed against his chest.
The door clicked shut behind him.
In his hand were the papers. Crumpled slightly from how tightly he had been holding them.
His steps were slow. Heavy.
As if every movement required more strength than he had left.
"Taehyung?"
Jisoo's voice reached him before he could even process his thoughts. Soft, concerned and familiar.
He froze.
Just for a second.
She walked toward him, her brows slightly furrowed, reading his face instantly.
"What happened?" she asked gently.
Her eyes dropped to his hand.
"To...those papers?"
Taehyung clenched his jaw.
He didn't answer.
"I met—" Jisoo started, stepping closer. "I met Jennie's father today. He said something really strange and I—"
"Stop."
His voice cut through her words. Sharp. Cold.
Jisoo blinked, confused.
"...What?"
Taehyung looked at her now. But not the way he used to. Not with softness or with warmth.
But an unusual-cold distance.
"I don't need to hear it."
Jisoo's heart dropped slightly.
"Taehyung...I think there's a misunderstanding—"
"There's no misunderstanding."
His tone rose. Just a little. But enough.
She stepped back slightly.
"...Then tell me what's going on."
He laughed. A dry. Empty laugh.
"What's going on?" he repeated.
His grip tightened around the papers.
"What's going on is that this—" he held them up, "—should've been done a long time ago."
Jisoo's breath hitched.
"...What?"
Taehyung looked at her and for a moment—
just a moment—something in his eyes wavered.
Don't.
If you don't do this now, she'll get hurt.
His expression hardened again.
"I want a divorce."
The words fell cold and final.
Jisoo stared at him. As if she hadn't heard correctly.
"...No."
A whisper.
"You don't mean that."
"I do."
"No, you don't," she shook her head slightly, stepping closer. "You said—you said you wanted to fix this. You said—"
"I changed my mind."
Her voice trembled now.
"...Why?"
Taehyung clenched his fists.
