Lin:
Today was the day I was gonna witness one of my best friends get married to the devotion of his life. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, if someone says they didn't cry they are definitely lying. I mean, seriously. Jazzy and Ant are as cute as a couple can get.
Alright, they're a close second to Julia and me.
For all of us, it was such an emotional day. But for others, well... I step over to Daveed crouching on the ground, in a corner of the dance floor. He was sluggish as he sat back while devouring a chunk of chocolate cake.
"Daveed?" I smiled as I looked down at him.
His eyes perked up like those of a lost puppy, "Mmh?"
"Whatcha doin'"
"Ignoring everyone in the room is my favorite part of weddings." He answers in the flattest voice possible, making me laugh even harder than I should. I peek at the cake and crease my eyebrows.
"No frosting, buddy?" I pop my head to the side. Who eats their cake without frosting?! Especially wedding cake!
"I don't believe in frosting."
Being taken aback by his statement, I reply with the same amount of humor dripping from every syllable. "Why are you talking about frosting as if it were communism?"
"Because frosting is as bad as communism."
Yeah, that should have been my senior quote back in high school. Shaking my head at his mockery, I stare around the wedding venue. Jasmine and Ant did a great job scheduling all of it. The lighting, the music, even the table cloths. Everything was so... perfect. It was so...them.
I feel the familiar warmth wrap her arms around my neck from behind me. "Speaking of perfect," I mutter with a cheerful scowl.
She giggles, now facing me. "Did you cry when they said their vows or are you normal?"
"Uh, correction, I sobbed."
We chuckle at our cringy jokes before I stop to gaze at her eyes. I then look around the ballroom and then back at Julia. "You remember our special day?"
As soon as I asked her this, we couldn't contain our predetermined smiles. "Not even with forced amnesia could I ever forget."
"You guys realize how extremely codependent you are, right?" Groffsauce chooses his words to interrupt our beautiful, beautiful moment.
"So?" Julia and I both say at the same time, resulting in us turning our heads and laughing at each other. I quickly thank God in my head for this woman before we hear a roaring voice take over the microphone.
"1, 2, 3, check. Can you guys hear me?" Anthony speaks into the mic and we swivel to look at him, who was now standing on top of the enormous stage.
We all gave him thumbs up and cheers to let him know we did, in fact, hear him. He nodded his head and begun again with whatever sermon he had planned in mind. "It's speech time! Who wants to go first?"
"Why is he asking who wants to go first like a middle school teacher asking their students to present a slideshow?" Chris snickered next to me and we tried holding in our laughter as he made his remark.
"Me, me, me, me!" Groff put his hand up like a little boy and sprinted up to the stage, essentially prying off Anthony's mic.
"Alrighty, then," He muttered, as Jonathan practically threw him down the stage stairs. Oh, how Groff loved the spotlight. Just for him.
"Okay, hello, hello, hello!" He mimicked me, making me giggle and shake my head down. "A very special guest whom I very much dislike will be joining me today! Let's give it up for Leslie Odom Junior!" He teased before people started clapping and praising Les.
He joined Groff by his side on the stage as well before speaking up for himself. "Well, why toast when we can,"
"ROAST!!!!!!" They shouted like psychopaths at the top of their lungs.
"This is about to be really funny," Anthony rolled his eyes at his two best friends.
"Okay, let's start with Anthony. He sucks as a person, y'all!" Leslie began the roasting and we were all so...confused by their insulting skills.
"That's right,"
"He really does. But most importantly, his acting... also sucks!!"
"Am I the only person who thinks this will be the worst roasting ever?" Julia whispered in my ear. "Can we do a recount? You got person #2 right here."
"You know what they say, you put a thousand monkeys in front of a thousand Broadway stages." Groff tried telling a saying but he said it completely wrong.
"One of them will be Anthony and he will probably be acting in Hamilton." Les proceeded the joke.
"This is our fault, we threw this wedding together so fast. And you did tell them to go hard." We heard Anthony tell Jas as they cackled lightly.
"Yeah, this is on us." She conceded with him.
"Next we have Jas! Gorgeous Jasmine who could have had any man she wanted!" Groffsauce nearly shrieks.
"And still can." Leslie pursed his lips.
"And still can."
"RUN!"
"Get your ass out!"
"RUN!" They kept screaming into the mics and we all tried our hardest to not laugh at them instead of laughing with them... Cause no one was laughing with them.
"Alright, have a lovely evening you guys!" They ended their roasting session which barely reached... I looked down at my watch... two minutes and three seconds??
Despite the chaotic toasts and really random wedding songs, we had the greatest night. I mean REALLY random songs. Daveed accidentally mashed Anthony's love songs and depression playlist. It wasn't fun to hear an Ed Sheeran ballad followed by Let Her Go...
That night, going back to our apartment, I thanked God for just one last time for my Julia. This past week I have been feeling so... hopeless. Just one bad thing accumulating after the other when it came to working I had to get done and I felt so overwhelmed and stressed out. Everything, even the atmosphere felt heavy.
And as I'm walking into our bedroom to get to bed, I halt in the entrance when I see the figure in front of me. My wife was dancing around in headphones, eyes closed, and the biggest grin I've ever seen. I stand in the doorway watching my oblivious partner with a loving smile on my face. And I thank God once more that at least one person in my life can make me beam and help me remember the light in dark times.
A/N: I'm back! It's been a week but it feels like so much longer! I'm so sorry I've been dealing with college applications but I will be trying to upload more frequently as I did in the past! PS I just got into my first college! Anywho, THANK YOU FOR READING. REMEMBER YOU ARE LOVED. I LOVE YOU. THANK YOU FOR 12K!!!
