Julia:

"Stop the car!" I yell in hopes of finding Lin somewhere on the beach. It was the only area where the police had picked up activity and movement.

We all rush out of the vehicle and I scam through the sand like an insane person. I practically was, at this point. This all just felt like a horrible fever dream. It felt like my mind was simply playing games with me.

Lin's parents went left and Jonathan, Reneé, and I, went right. The police were on their own, attempting to search with their incredible investigation abilities. We were doing our best to remain calm, however. Everyone just took advantage of giving Lin the benefit of the doubt.

"See anything?" Jonathan shouted in hopes of any signs. I shook my head no. I kept looking. I kept searching. I wasn't going to give up, especially not now.

My eyes take notice of an amorphous figure walking up the lighthouse stairs. I look back at everyone, and they weren't noticing this. I furrow my eyebrows, and decide to chase after the figure on my own.

The lighthouse stairs were wooden and practically about to fall off. They were very much unstable, and if I wanted to run after the strange figure, I needed to keep quiet. As I look up, I see the man's back. His black colored hoodie read Rise Up.

Are you kidding me? It was Lin all along. "Lin! Lin!" I call after him. He keeps walking up the stairs however. I follow suit like a lost puppy, soon losing a bit of my breath. We reach the top and I approach him slowly as he's staring out into the landscape. He was resting his elbows over the edge, and I proceeded to whisper so I wouldn't scare him.

"Lin?" I mutter.

The figure clenches his jaw and bows his head down... in defeat?

"What are you doing here?" His voice breaks, yet it's so cold and dull at the same time.

"We were all looking for you. What happened?"

I'm still facing his back. He didn't want to turn around just yet. What is wrong with him? This isn't like him.

"It's a blessing and a curse that you're so smart." He mumbles.

"What do you mean by that?"

"How did you find me?"

I hesitated. "Well, I-I woke up. You weren't besides me. Alexander wasn't in his bed. Lin, I freaked out, completely. I thought I lost you."

I heard him whisper something along the lines of Something like that, which caught me by surprise. What is he saying? Why is he like this right now?

"Love, whatever happened, we can talk about it. You can trust me, you know-"

"It's not you!" He finally turned around after making me jump back after his scream. He quickly bowed his head down again when he realized he made me fear him for a second.

He pursed his lips and shook his head. Why won't he tell me what's wrong? Is it something I did? Said?

"Then what is?!" I yelled back. I was losing my patience already.

"I'm so sorry, Julia. I had to do this..."

"Do what, Lin? What did you do?!"

He sighed in defeat. He looked like he wa done beating around the bush, and ready to tell me everything. After all, honesty was never a problem in our relationship. It's called Yours Truly for a reason...

"Remember Sarah?"

My stomach dropped in disgust, and the dinner I had last night managed to make its way back up to my throat. I nodded weakly.

"I... I had to get rid of her. She was too dangerous for us. For you..."

I went to reach for his hands but he pushed them away. "Lin, she's in prison. She can't do anything anymore."

"Do you know who put her there?" His face got closer to mine, and for once, I noticed his expression. His eyes held the greatest fear I've ever seen in my entire life. Why was he so terrified?

I remained quiet, in hopes that he would answer his own question and explain all of this chaos once and for all. He did as I thought.

"The only way I could get her out of our lives, wholly, completely... was by... S-Selling my soul."

Was this a prank?

I had no other option but to release a laugh. A laugh of the ridiculousness I was hearing at the moment.

"Sell your soul? Sell your soul to who?"

"The Devil." His eyes turned black. They weren't soft like the eyes he once looked me with; they weren't safe like the expression he once stared at me with. No, they were dark, and cold, and scary; and if you looked too much into them you could get sucked right into the Devil's portals.

I started walking backwards. I took a few steps back, so he wouldn't notice at first. This isn't my husband. This isn't my husband. I kept telling myself. This is all just a game or a prank, or both.

"Don't you understand? I had to do this. I had to protect you, Julia, over all. I had no other option! I couldn't tell you! How could I? You were going to react the same way you're reacting now. I'm sorry, I gave my all in exchange for your safety."

"This isn't real, is it?"

"I tried getting out of the deal after we put her in prison... but that's just not how it works. Our lives are never going to be the same as they were. The Devil, he- He is going to take everything away from me now. I can't be with you now. I'm going to damage you, harm you, destruct you; all in an involuntary manner if I'm still alive and the Devil keeps haunting me."

He pauses, takes a breath, and looks back. "I don't have much time left, but just know how much I love you. Now you know I would die for you." He begins standing up on the lighthouse railing and I release an ear piercing scream.

"Please, please, please, stay. We can figure this out. Please don't make me lose you. Remember every obstacle we've faced. Have you ever been alone?" My voice breaks, as I hang onto his right arm. His face twists in desperation and a tear rolls down his left cheek. He shakes his head no.

"Right?" I sniff my nose, getting teared up, "So we can deal with this together. All or nothing?"

Before he answers my question, he pulls out a ten dollar bill out of his pocket.

"What's this for?" I ask, but then I remember.

"The first time we met, we bet ten dollars that we would end up together. I owe you this now." He hands me the ten dollar bill,
and after that, there was nothing but utter darkness.
