Althea POV
AS I stepped into the building, the cold air from the air conditioning brushed against my skin, prompting a deep sigh to escape my lips. The sound of my heels echoed on the floor as I walked, dressed in a tea pink business suit and carrying a black briefcase. Today marked my first day as a secretary. Just last night, I received the call confirming my acceptance for the job, and I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement.
I had woken up early to prepare breakfast, determined to cook for my family even with my new job. I wanted to show my husband and son that I could still make time for them. However, when Blaze learned about my job, he burst into tears. It was amusing to recall his last words before I left.
"Don't you dare look at any other man except me and Daddy, or else I'll cut their balls, Mom. I'm dead serious!"
I chuckled softly at the memory when suddenly, someone bumped into me. The impact caused me to stumble slightly, and I nearly dropped my briefcase.
"Damn! I think I might sprain my ankle from that..." I muttered under my breath.
"Are you blind!?" a sharp, familiar voice rang out.
"Da-iana," I whispered, not sure if she heard me. What was she doing here? I had just collided with her. She was dressed in a stunning pink dress that ended above the knee, tied with a bow at the side.
"Hey! I'm talking to you!" she snapped.
I felt all eyes on us, and embarrassment washed over me. Could she please just keep her voice down?
"Sorry," I mumbled, looking down. I didn't want to see her face; it might only fuel her anger. I hoped she wouldn't recognize me. If she did, I would be in serious trouble.
"Sorry? What the!" she exclaimed, her irritation palpable. "You ruined my dress—" She paused, and I cautiously peeked at her. When our eyes met, I quickly looked down again. "Wait! May I know you?"
My heart raced. Did she recognize me? I kept my gaze lowered, hoping she wouldn't see my face. If she did, it would be goodbye world for me.
"Did she just fight with the Queen?" one bystander whispered.
"Wow, she's bold!" another added. "How dare she!"
I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment. I was the one they were talking about, and I could already sense the hostility brewing around me. Why did she have to be here?
"Hey! I'm asking you if I know you!" Dianna pressed.
"No, ma'am. This is the first time I've seen you," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
"If that's the case, what are you doing here?"
"Um... I'm working here, ma'am."
"Then... you're fired."
"HO?"
"Are you deaf?"
"Bu-but ma'am, I just started!"
"Then sorry, you can leave."
"Pe... but—"
"GUARD!" she shouted. "Get this woman out of my building!"
Panic surged through me. I felt frantic, unsure whether to plead with her or beg for forgiveness. My eyes widened as I saw three bodyguards approaching. This was it—my first day, and I might already be out the door.
"Ma'am. Dianna?" one of the guards said hesitantly.
"Drag this woman out of my building!" Dianna ordered.
My heart raced as I realized I was about to be thrown out. I swallowed hard, my throat dry.
The guard approached me and said, "Ma'am, labas na po" Upon noticing my face, he suddenly stopped and asked, "Ma'am Althea?"
"Althea sounds familiar, but I don't care. Just leave!" Dianna snapped.
"But ma'am—" the guard hesitated.
"What?" she demanded.
"Uh... because..."
"If you don't want to, I'll drag her out myself!" Dianna threatened, stepping toward me.
Dianna was about to approach me when the guards immediately blocked her path. I furrowed my brow, confused about what was happening.
"What's this? Are you siding with that woman?"
"Sorry, ma'am... but we cannot remove Ma'am Althea, and especially, you cannot harm her."
"And why is that?" she asked.
"Because of me."
We both turned to see where that voice was coming from. My eyes widened in shock at who stood before me. No, it couldn't be.
