Rain dropped down again like pebbles falling down a gorge, cats huddled in their dens and ran quickly when they went from place to place. Foxpaw watched from the apprentices' den. Flatpaw had curled up in his den to sleep, he must have been exhausted.
After Foxpaw's nap on the SharingRocks, she didn't feel a trace of sleepiness in her. She watched the water stroll down the rocks like tears.
Would Mosspelt really take her out now? Joypaw fur brushed hers, his fur was matted down and his paws tripped on small pebbles.
Foxpaw wouldn't dare ask where he was, he seemed too tired to even yawn! Streampaw trotted behind him, her fur was matted as well. Instead of sleeping she laid by him.
"Where were you guys?" Foxpaw asked curiously, she had known Joypaw had been in camp all day. Why was he tired now?
"Mind your own business furball!" Streampaw spat at her, she was the second grumpy cat.
Foxpaw shrugged stiffly, her muscles were tense when she raised her paws to get rid of Pebbletail's tick. Even though there was one, her rest helped her a bit. But not enough.
Thrushfur skidded to the warrior den, his paws were filled with mud. She watched as Goldentail popped out of the den, then scolding him.
Mosspelt appeared from the gorse tunnel, she carried a blackbird. Then she walked over to the apprentices' den.
"There you are!" she panted. "The rain is heavy, maybe prey is in. Do you wanna go out?"
"There's a high chance prey is out." Foxpaw meowed in return. "Maybe where there are a lot of trees, they'll have a drink." Trees would cover the rain, but small puddles would still hold, prey would go out and drink a bit before taking off.
"I guess you're right!" Mosspelt mewed excitenly. "You're thinking like a warrior! Let's head now, where are there plenty of trees?" she tilted her head.
Foxpaw gave her chest a few embarrassed licks before replying. Mosspelt was testing her, maybe this could mean a higher chance of being a warrior!
But there are still plenty of moons to go! Foxpaw thought, her fur grew hot.
"Well, SlopeClan is a moor, not plenty of trees. CliffClan has a grassland before heading to the mountain." she stopped. "So, BreezeClan, there are pine trees aren't there?"
Mosspelt nodded, she padded out the den flicking her tail for Foxpaw to follow her. Foxpaw pelted after her, her fur fluffed out. Rain got stuck to her pelt, she hissed in annoyance. Why did it have to rain so much?
Foxpaw followed Mosspelt out, when they got near BreezeClan, Foxpaw watched as water slapped the shores of the river. Droplets dropped into the river like pebbles.
Suddenly a group of cats were at the other side, most likely a patrol. Foxpaw heard hisses of anger from the other side as she lifted her head.
She wanted to run back in fear, did this mean a battle?
"Were not trespassing." Mosspelt yowled.
Suddenly a white strong tom with broad shoulders climbed the tree, he reached the other side his fur bristled as he signaled the other cats to stay where they were.
"Oh yes?" he snarled.
Mosspelt didn't flinch, instead she kept her gaze at him. "We're sorry," she mewed bitterly. "But you are trespassing!" she spat.
"Sorry doesn't bring prey!" he continued angrily.
"Doesn't water fill your bellies?" Foxpaw spat, she felt her muscles tense. "You live with a river and catch with them."
