Foxpaw walked back to camp sluggishly. Her tail drooped, patrol wasn't fun as Flatpaw had mentioned.

Mosspelt sat by the entrance, her eyes glowed as she watched Foxpaw approach her. She saw Berryheart reporting to Sunstar.

"Good you're here!" She mewed energetically, Foxpaw blinked and faced the cat. "We can head out training, first get some fresh-kill, you look hungry."

Foxpaw nodded, she hadn't noticed how empty her stomach felt. She could go for a warm piece of fresh-kill while sunning herself and sharing tongues with Flatpaw.

She picked out a plump mouse, she devoured it in seconds. Joypaw was sitting nearby, his green eyes glowed in amusement.

"I never thought that you would eat that whole!" Joypaw meowed sympathetically.

"Me neither." Foxpaw replied gulping down the rest.

"I caught that myself." Joypaw told her proudly.

"I could too." she said jealousy grew in her voice. "Even a kit! It was probably slow."

Joypaw glanced away, he then turned to face her again. "Your right." he murmured. "But I'm proud I caught at least something."

Mosspelt butted in, her fur fluffed up. "Come on Foxpaw." she urged. "You can't stay here chatting all day, Clan life is hunt, fight and protect." her tone grew sharp. "Not chat, chat, and chat!"

Foxpaw bounded away, she followed Mosspelt to the Training Trees. Sand covered her paws, she felt an urge to lick it away.

"We're battling?" Foxpaw complained.

"Why not?" Mosspelt replied for a few heart beats. "Hunting is not always everything. You know the basics of hunting, now let's learn the basics of battling." she steadied herself on the sand. "Try throwing me down."

Foxpaw looked at Mosspelt's paws, she leaped, blowing her paws at hers. She knew Mosspelt would dodge, when she did, Foxpaw followed her and pushed her down, hitting her shoulders.

"Good." Mosspelt praised her as she scrambled up.

"See I know the basics." Foxpaw hissed at her.

"But do you know this?" Mosspelt pushed her down with her front paws, Foxpaw fled through the sand. She scrambled up yowling.

Mosspelt flew at her again, holding her chest. Foxpaw gasped for air, her eyes narrowed. What was her weakness? Foxpaw used her hind legs to push her down, Mosspelt fell on her back, yowling.

Foxpaw's whiskers twitched in amusement. She fled over to her, holding her paws on her chest. She blew her paws on her face and Mosspelt winced every time they came across her eyes.

Mosspelt scrambled up, shaking the sand from her pelt. "I see you better." Mosspelt murmured.

Foxpaw panted for air, she wanted to drop down to the sandy floor and sleep a moon!

"I told you!" Foxpaw growled. "Can we go hunting now?"

"No," Mosspelt replied sharply. "You're not, you have to learn to battle."

"Why do you say that?" Foxpaw snapped. "Every clan is peaceful."

Mosspelt unsheathed her claws, part of Foxpaw expected her to claw her face and rip her throat out. Instead Mosspelt dug her claws into the sand.

"It won't be peaceful for long." she mewed quietly. "Hollypool told me there would be a battle." She paused. "I just want you prepared Foxpaw. I'll see if I'll get you into a hunting patrol."
