Flatpaw laid on his flank, his mouse was halfway opened. His breath was shallow, but as Foxpaw entered he opened his amber eyes.
"Foxpaw?" he rasped.
Foxpaw nuzzled his brother and dropped him the mouse. "There eat up."
Flatpaw prodded the mouse away. "I'm not hungry," he objected.
Foxpaw's fur began to bristle. "You have to eat if you wanna get better." she meowed sourly, she was starting to sound like a queen.
"Fine, keep your fur on." he sighed, lifting his head up and digging into the mouse.
Hollypool came in with tansy covered with honey. She halted and blinked her eyes greetinly at Foxpaw. Hollypool urged Flatpaw to eat the tansy with honey, which he did.
"You should get going." Hollypool meowed over to Foxpaw.
"I know, I know." Foxpaw meowed tiredly at Hollypool.
Foxpaw ran out the den, hoping that the herby scents wouldn't cling to her fur. She ran towards Mosspelt who groomed her pelt briskly.
Without hesitation, Mosspelt stood up and ran towards the camp entrance.
Foxpaw pelted behind her, her tail fur fluffed out. Foxpaw stumbled over some pebbles, her fur began to bristle when she scented a cat's scent.
She crawled into the undergrowth, her tail waved high. She knew it wasn't a prey, and a cat won't be alarmed so easily. Unless it's a kittypet.
She jumped up, ready to slam the cat if it attacked her. But would it? Without thinking, Foxpaw fell face flat on the ground. Her nose scratched on the pebbles. She bit back a yowl and spun around facing a light gray tom.
The tom's yellow eyes grew wide. "Great, you scared my vole off." he snarled.
Foxpaw stumbled up, her nose welled up with blood. "Sorry." she mewed, she drew her tongue against her nose to lick the blood off.
"Sorry doesn't bring our Clan prey." Berryheart snarled, the light gray tom padded back to some bushes.
Foxpaw spun around to face Mosspelt. "Come on, we'll learn both things."
What are both things? She noticed that her mentor was talking about hunting and fighting.
Foxpaw stumbled back to camp. Her paws scratched the snowy floor, she had been working so clumsy today. It wasn't like her to do that. But why can't I get anything right? She cried like a kit, nothing was distracting me, it was something . . .
Her thoughts broke off as she heard someone call her name. She lifted her head and faced Streampaw.
"Yes?" Foxpaw meowed tiredly, half expecting Streampaw to yell at her.
"Better keep your fur on." Streampaw snarled, her tail fluffed out. "I will not waste my time with you."
Foxpaw narrowed her eyes, you better keep your fur on. Why do you need me if you don't wanna waste time? Streampaw flicked her tail.
"Hello?" Streampaw called, Foxpaw broke off from her daydreaming.
She unsheathed her claws and dug them to the ground. "Sorry you made a doze off for a few heartbeats."
Streampaw got so close to her that their noses almost bumped into each other. Streampaw's warm breath made Foxpaw's fur bristle. "Pebbletail needs you."
