Foxpaw came back with one blackbird, a squirrel, and a mouse. She felt sleepy but she didn't say anything. Flatpaw was on top of the SharingRocks, sharing tongues with Streampaw.
She felt Sunstar's flank besides hers. "Go eat." she told her, giving her a brisk lick on her ear.
Foxpaw quickly scampered over there, she took a plump squirrel and took it. She ate half of it, and left the rest. Flatpaw bounded down the SharingRocks.
"You're gonna finish that?" he asked her impatiently.
Foxpaw prodded the mouse, then she headed to Goldentail. I need to ask her something she thought, I wonder if she can answer this.
Foxpaw entered the warriors' den, she saw her mother sleeping. Goldentail lifted her head and stared blankly at Foxpaw. "What is it?"
"What if a cat from another Clan hunts on our territory? But they are starving, do we let them hunt there or not?"
"No." Goldentail mewed. "And you know that." she gave her kit a few licks around her ear.
"I'm not a kit anymore!" Foxpaw scrambled out of her paws. "Also what if you like a cat from another Clan?"
Goldentail's eyes grew wide. "Why so many questions that can be answered by yourself? Foxpaw you know the answers."
"Okay, okay." Foxpaw purred. "I'll leave now."
She padded to the apprentices' den and curled in her bedding, falling asleep.
Foxpaw opened her eyes to see rain patter down like pebbles. Flatpaw's scent was stale, he had probably gone out hunting. Foxpaw couldn't help but go to the forest and help at hunting as well. If she had nothing to do, the only thing was hunting. Mosspelt had probably gone out to Border Patrol.
Foxpaw quickly wriggled out of camp, her fur fluffed out from the rain. Droplets of water trickled down her cheek as if she was crying. Suddenly Foxpaw heard a scream by BreezeClan's territory.
In alarm Foxpaw ran towards it, her fur brushed thorns as it pricked her pelt. She skidded down muddy slopes carefully not to fall, one or two times she had.
In the distance, she saw Flatpaw holding tight to the edge of the river, gasping for air as water filled his nostrils. Foxpaw felt a shiver as he yelled again, this time her name. His eyes filled with sorrow, suddenly, the currents pushed him down as he drowned inside the water.
Foxpaw reluctantly jumped in, she had no choice but to help his brother. Water filled her mouth as she gasped for air, thrashing the water so she could get near her brother. She watched as he hit his back on a large rock that was in front of him. Blood trickled down his forehead.
Foxpaw let out a yowl calling his name. Oh StarClan! No! she yowled in her mind. Flatpaw had fainted, and the currents were already starting to take him. Foxpaw mind whirled. How would she save her littermate?
Foxpaw let the currents take her as she got near Flatpaw, she grabbed his scruff and pulled him to shore. But the currents were already taking them to the mountains. Foxpaw paws stopped working, the currents had taken her. The world turned black as she fainted.
Foxpaw opened her eyes to see the silhouette sky by the trees. The world seemed purple, but Foxpaw couldn't help but close her eyes again. After a few heart beats, she saw a gray tom a few tail lengths away from her.
The gray tom jerked his head around, he boosted over to her. "Foxpaw!"
She fixed her eyes on the gray tom, it was Flatpaw. His tail was fluffed up excitedly. "This place is cool!"
