"Kennedy? What the hell are you doing here?"

The blonde rookie officer crossed his arms at the nagging of his senior officer but he grinned, allowing his curious gaze to rake over her as he wondered what business she had at the front steps of the local mental facility.

"Self-admission here, huh?" Leon teased, enjoying the way Y/N gritted her teeth and flexed her fingers, as if she imagined using them to wring his neck.

"Shut up," she scowled, her eyes flitting down to the file he held in his hands before glancing back up at his now neutral expression. "Working on something? I don't recall giving you clearance to come up here by yourself, rookie."

Leon raised a brow at her intrusiveness but sighed, as if he were expecting the suspicion from his higher up. He was called 'rookie' only because he was the station's newest addition, not because he was 'new'.  In fact, he'd been at that station for a good few months, and worked several cases under the supervision of Y/N Gussman. In those few months, he'd learnt that not only was the woman cold, distant, and hyper-focused when it came to her job, but she also had traits of distrust, skepticism, and hesitance to make herself all more appealing.

It kind of turned him on.

"Well?" her sharp voice sounded, pulling the sandy haired blonde out of his thoughts.

"It's not any police business," Leon answered truthfully, hiding the file in his jacket. "More of a personal matter."

Y/N raised a brow, curious, but not prying. Thankfully for her, Leon Kennedy was one of those people who shared his secrets just to keep the conversation from dying out.

"My sister's been in here since I became an officer," he continued, noticing how Y/N's expression shifted for a fraction of a second. Her face fell just as soon as it changed, and he sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"Oh, sorry," she muttered, relaxing her stiff posture. "I didn't--"

"It's alright," Leon said hurriedly, waving his hands. "This trip is kind of eating up my break time anyway."

Y/N bit her lip, and glanced at her own watch, realizing that both of their breaks started a little over an hour ago. Her side quest with Elliot and Five led to her completely neglecting her duties at the station. She cursed under her breath, making a note to take the necessary actions for time off. It was no doubt that the upcoming events of Armageddon would be keeping her busy for the next week and a half.

"Leon, if you're heading back to the station now, can you tell the squad to get Penske for patrol tonight?" she questioned, racking her brain for some pathetic excuse. "Something came up."

Leon raised a brow, unaccustomed to the girl calling him anything but 'rookie' or 'Kennedy,' but he nodded, realizing she must be dealing with something pretty important to get off the job. In all his knowledge, she'd never taken a single day off.

"Okay," he nodded, his gaze softening.

"Alright," she replied, holding her arm awkwardly. "Sorry, again--"

"Y/N!"

The said girl cringed at the second interruption, taking it as a sign to just not apologize as Five strolled down the steps, a ready glare aimed at the handsome officer before him. "And who's this?"
