Mercedes smiled as she picked up the bowl of candy and went up to the door to deliver the candy to the trick-or-treaters. She lived in a small town, so she never checked her peep hole.
Mercedes happily opened the door and froze upon seeing no one there.
She stepped outside and looked onto the empty street for any teenagers who would play a prank on her but came up empty. No one was there yet her doorbell had been rung. Mercedes stepped back in before pausing as her eyes landed on the porch.
She bent down and picked up a lock of red hair with a purple ribbon tying it together. Mercedes brought it up to her level as she set the bowl of candies down.
"A lock of hair?" Mercedes asked to herself missing her back door opening slowly as something slipped in and moved into the kitchen.
Mercedes shut the door, took out a piece of candy, and popped it into her mouth before taking the lock of hair into the dining room. She pulled her phone out deciding to call her mom as she felt dread building up inside her. Something felt off to Mercedes.
As her phone rung Mercedes heart dropped when she heard the floorboards of her kitchen creaking under pressure. Her eyes flickered up to the mirror in front of her as cold terror set into her as her eyes laid on the monster behind her.
It was tall and slim with grey skin pulled tautly over its skin covered in bits of fur. In its hand was another lock of red hair. Identical to the same one Mercedes held except for a pink ribbon tying it together.
As soon as Mercedes eyes made eye contact with the beast in the mirror her heart dropped. Fear flooded her system as the monster raised itself up delight prancing through its eyes as it noticed Mercede's staring right at it.
Then the monster came flying at her as her scream was cut off and the lock fell to the floor.
