Fay looked down at Comet her mentor Rune's wolf. "Have you caught the trail yet?" Fay asked as she urged her horse Neptune forward. Comet looked up before he trotted off.
The full moon lit their path. Almost the entire moon phase had passed since Fay went out to look for her mentor Rune. He had disappeared after going into town and she had until tonight to find him.
Fay took Comet with her knowing he was one of the best bets to find Rune. He had been restless since his master had left. Fay urged Neptune forward as her horse trotted forward after Comet. Fay continued as Comet tracked.
"Please be okay." Fay murmured sending out a silent plea for Rune to be okay.
Fay enjoyed Rune's company. He was an immensely powerful wizard especially for his age. He was only ten years older than her yet had power that most elder wizards have. Although he didn't look as old as he is.
Rune remained a youthful look through the means of his magic. Fay continued when Comet stopped and looked over at her.
Fay dismounted from Neptune and put the reins over the saddle as Neptune silently followed her. Fay walked forward keeping her hands on the dagger she strapped to her side. While Fay had been getting good at magic, she didn't trust herself enough.
Fay crept forward before she froze as Comet began whining.
"Rune!" Fay rushed forward upon seeing Rune tangled in vines with his eyes shut. Fay was quick over as she took out her dagger and began hacking at the runes freeing him. Rune's eyes opened as he caught himself on her.
"Fay?" Rune asked.
"Come on, I have Neptune, let's get you on him." Comet paced at Fay's side as she walked over with Rune draped over her. He was much heavier than he looked.
"Fay, we need to go. . . trolls." Rune moaned out as she got him. Fay stopped as she heard the earth shake. Fay swung herself up and whistled for Comet who took off down the same trail they came on.
Fay dug her heels into Neptune who took off at a gallop. Fay looked behind to see the two trolls where her mentor had been tied up as one of them let out a bellow in defeat realizing their prey had escaped.
Rune wrapped his arms around Fay trying his best to steady himself.
"Go to the kingdom first, I need a healer. And the knights need to be informed for they can set out for the trolls." Rune murmured and Fay nodded as she rode hard happy to know she had found her mentor before he came the next meal of the trolls.
444. This was fun as well. I wanted to hint at romance between Fay and Rune as well. ***
